P0404 Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Open Position Performance

it's possible the ecu 5v is too low internally, so it throws up a phantom error

first thing to do is check the connections are ok and it's not getting covered by water or oil

Hi Guys, I'm new to this site, found it by doing a search about egr faults, my vectra is runing like a bag of sh**, fault is coming up as egr.

Who do I contact about getting one of these egr cheater things (the plug in type would be easier)?

Thanks
Ian

Re:

due to the popularity of the 'plug-in' version of the egr cheater it will now be the default supplied version, if you want a wired version then please ask

this is the correct way up for the egr plug-in cheater, the components upwards and the centre pin C is not used, so two pins go to A + B and the other two pins go to D + E

EDIT: I have updated the picture with the 2010 version

hi matt, the egr cheater i received is the same as above but has a little glass diode instead of a resistor there is this normal?, when i received it in the post the little diode was damaged with broken glass in the envelope, is there any chance you could send me another i could solder in?

hi to all,
for people who are trying to use cheater v2 for non z22se motors,
it doesn't work on x14xe. I tested only on my car, but i think there are other modifications to get it work :(

Just looked at the connection plug on egr valve at present, with a view to fitting a cheater,The plug looks as if it has a locking grey plastic part on it.How does the plug come out from socket on egr valve,as being a bit heavy handed dont wish to break the plastic parts by just yanking it out? notsure.gif

pull the grey part of the plug back (towards the wires) and then push the black catch down look back a page on here (page7) and you can see the plug with the grey bit slid backwards (y)
