egr

This morning, while the wife was driving home, the EML came on and, when I checked the codes with OpCom, it was showing P0404 & P1414. Both related to the EGR. Thing is, the EGR has been removed. This was done before I got the car so I don't know what was done on the 'cheater' side of things...

Saw this picture of z22se EGR system pipe connecting the intake manifold. I'm thinking as it is in the way of the air flow, would removing the pipe give any benefit for the engine? p.s. I'm already have removed egr valve and fitted the cheater.
