Fitting the EGR Cheater

this is my latest version of the egr cheater, I see little point in retaining the plug on the engine loom, so now the egr cheater is designed to fit inside the loom tray :)

the latest version

acdn.z22se.com_userpix_13_IMGP1314_1.jpg

first step is to open the loom tray, use a small screwdriver to release the clips

acdn.z22se.com_userpix_13_IMGP1315_1.jpg

then cut only the four wires required and connect them to the egr cheater, the last wire can then be cut and taped to the loom.
the spare brown wire is not required anymore :)

then slide the egr cheater into the loom tray and reattach the lid, be careful not to trap any wires etc

finally remove the redundant egr valve and fit the vauxhall blanking plate

Am I right in saying the EGr proves more irritable after the car has been stood for a while like when i wnet on 2 weeks holiday. damn thing cut out sall the while for about 20 m inutes after, local garage said EGR was sticky but its been fine since?

Thats neat ! How much are you selling these for Neil ?
My car has driven fine ever since i got it but has always fet sluggish above 60 to what id expect a 2.2 150 to feel like. It pulls hard up to this point and seems to lose a bit of power ? Is this something the EGR valve may cause ? (Or am I asking silly questions !?!?) lol

Cheers !!!!! showo..

egr usually causes poor running dunno..

above 60 mph will be you are getting used to the power, check out the tuning section

cheers neil, sorry for the questions but would this be something you would only really consider replacing if it went wrong ?

forgot to post....available as a free gift if you donate a tenner to the site, use the link at the top of the page and state egr cheater :)

the egr cheater replaces the egr valve, you can use it to save buying a new valve or you can save yourself the hassle of the egr failing by blanking off the valve before it fails.

the egr cheater mimics the valve so the ecu believes it's still there :)

and fitted to a vx220 with a weird loom

connector cut off - the wires go in this order - notice i have black instead of brown earth

loom cut and wires soldered on

Slots into the split pipe here (Ive covered the cheater with clear heatshrink and silicon - the vx220 engine environment is a little harsher)

taped up with some new split pipe (instead of the two parts that used to be there)

fitted homemade blanking plate and voila!

EGR PROBLEM

I fitted the egr cheater last week and after two days of running the vehicle the cooling fan has started running permanently?

I removed fuse 8 to reset the ECU and all was well but after a further days driving the fan has come back on??

Could there be a fault with the cheater?

The vehicle is a vx220 and apparently a permanent fan is some sort of safe mode for the ecu but no engine warning light has illuminated.

I has been running the car with the drilled EGR blanking plate up till I got the cheater with no problems.

Cheers Oakmere

I would firstly reconnect the egr valve, then monitor the situation.

The egr cheater is a very basic circuit, but a diode could be duff, I can send you another egr cheater if you wish dunno..

Also which egr loom wire colours do you have notsure.gif

Thanks Vocky

I have reconnected the EGR valve and will monitor the situation for the next few days to see if this solves the problem.

I will keep you updated.

Cheers Oakmere

A similar accident happened also to me :( I made the circuit by myself according to wiring diagram above. There must be some error... :(

that is weird, there must be about 20 or so fitted, all the others are fine dunno..

I put it down to a faulty diode and sent a replacement egr cheater after testing every component on the new one.

I would double check the wiring and components if you can notsure.gif
