I need a new rocker gasket and thought I would be able to get 1 locally. I have rang 5 places ranging from 12.00 quid to 35quid and not 1 of them have them in stock. Dam it.

5 local motorfactors and bristol street vauxhall all said tuesday the earliest. i was gonna order 1 off ebay but that would be atleast tuesday aswell, so ordered 1 from auto supplies local to me. iv put the old 1 on for now but iv only put like 5-6 bolts in just to check the tensioner has fixed the job.

uploading a video to youtube now to show if it has or not.............

all fixed, just didnt have the airbox on or engine mounting on so doesnt sound 100% right but its all good now, just gota wait for the new rocker cover gasket on tuesday.

i fitted a new gates belt while i was there, decided against the belt tensioner for now.

Iv got the old tensioner out and its very strange how it lets go but once it gets to a certain point it locks up again like it should

Oh well its all sorted now. I have a video of the new tensioner fitted if you want to compare a faulty 1 to a good 1.

I maintain about 15/20 friends and families cars.

So iv allways got something to do.

When im not working on friends cars, im restoring my classic mini or messing with a bike or a quad.

Ah, Mini, now you're talking. Nice cars to work on, easy to tune, fun to drive.

this is not

im hopeing that this info will be useful in the future. its not a massive job to do and not a scary as i thought it was going to be. easily done in an hour n half if you know whats at fault.

Well done for getting it sorted, Dave. These engines aren't as scary as they seem at first. (y)

That's what I said after watching Carl do mine
Yet no garage would touch my car in manchester unless I went to vauxhall and they wanted over a grand to go the job on my coupe
Unless Carl made it look that easy lol

I only saw half of mine being done, i had to run off and do a few castles i think i was gone about 45mins and carl had got them all back on so I missed the hard bit

But once you look at them there not that scary, I think I would do both chains IF I had the crank holding tool and the locking tools. But there more than the chain kits.

anything easy when you know how, I can build a bouncy castle from start to finish in 4 hours. I dont know many other people that can hahahaha.

New rocker gasket fitted today after going to fetch it twice and having delivered twice(dont ask)

Anyway first cold start sounded great, first test drive felt great, the vibration on tick over has gone and obviusly the horrible noise has gone so im well happy and after not driving it for over 2 weeks it feels amazing compared to the corsa. Just need new boot rams now(nearlly nocked me the f**k out). So all in all a great end
