2.2 Gear Stick Removal - Quick Help

I want to remove the gear stick from the car and replace it with a new one. Thing is I can't figure out how you remove it. there's two thin rods that connect, one that allows the movement for bottom right reverse and tyhe other that does the gear selection

On both of these there's two plastic blocks that look like clips but not sure. Is it a case of remove them, undo the four bolts that hold gear stick on and hoof it out? Info and pics would be good.

I did this on my Vectra and its a right b*****d! You'll need a small flat blade screwdriver to undo the 2 clips that you have seen. You will need to mark the positions of the blocks on the thin rods before you move anything as these rods are part of the linkage and if they go back in the wrong place you could have some difficulty selecting gears.

So mark off the entry point of the rod at the entrance of the clip/block. Flat blade screw driver to unclip, undo 4 off mount bolts in the floor and out it comes.

If you've got a Haynes manual it'll all be in there. You will then have to unclip the gearstick from the assembly.

cheers, any idea how to remove the top of the gear stick, Have bought one from scrappers but has a cdx wooden nob on and mines an sri. cHEERS.

You'll have to hacksaw the knob off. When you cut through the plastic you'll then start cutting into an aluminium lump that is secured to the stick. You'd be better off changing the stick really if its just the knob that you are after. What is it that you are actually trying to do?

the gear stick on mine is very very sloppy and loose, I've removed the entire gear lever assembly from mine and from one at the scrap yard that was nice and tight. The one from the scrappers was from a cdx, mines an sri. So wanted to just pop the gear lever top off and fit mine on, if have to cut it off I'm a bit buggered.

what would be the cause of the above, stripped mine down and the only thing I could see it being is a plastic collar that fits around the ball joint.

Way back when I worked in Masterfit we used to use a silicon paste on the rubber ring...this stopped the sloppy stick problem...but now it seems impossible to get hold of!!! Tried getting some...special ordr only, 17 sovs plus vat!! If anyone has a tube will buy!! Benny?!?
