Got the new camera in the post a couple of days ago, and the weather is pretty decent today, so set about replacing the old broken one

So, removed the rear bumper, and it's pretty obvious what has gone wrong with it

It's totally come apart, and was full of water

So, connected the new one up, and made sure it was working

While I had the back of the car off, I cleaned up behind the bumper

Much better

So with the new camera in, it's all working again. The camera is also a lot better quality that the previous one

I had a look at the wireless ones when I was getting a replacement for the one I had. Didn't see the point as all the wiring was already in place for mine. What do you have fitted at the minute Carl?

i wont be using the wireless as you say the wiring is all there
my only problem with the one i have is its powered form the reverse feed and takes 2 sec's to turn on and warm up

When I fitted this I spliced into the feed I took for the boost gauge, so it comes on with the ignition and stays on. It's only displayed when reverse is selected because of the can adaptor I have fitted as it's able to detect the reverse signal.

Old one deffenity looks shot! Nice clean up Matt also.
Yep, it was totally f**ked! The new one also had a small gap either side, so I ran a bead of silicone along the edge last night to make sure it's fully sealed.

i think i might wire this new one up full time off the stereo remote lead with a relay to the amp +12v
That will probably be better. You can't take a feed off the reverse bulb on the MK5 as it messes with the resistance and can cause interference with the image.

Camera is totally dead :(

Seller on eBay lists a 6 month exchange on faulty items, so I've contacted them, as I only bought it 4 months ago.

are they easy to fit
The Chinese was is, because it's built into the number plate light. You just replace the whole unit. The one from Maplins will need to be secured to something, and then the cables routed back through the bumper to the HU. I've already got all the cables there, so I just need to figure how to attach it to the Chinese unit.
