CTS Fault - NO EML - Pls Read !

Have recently become an owner of a 1999 mk4 astra 1.8 sport currently have an annoying oil leak, have a dark colour fluid in coolant tank but coolant is not mixing with oil pheww I wish to drain out the entire cooling system and flush it completely, clean out the tank refit and fill back up. My temp sensor around town sits between 85 n 90 most times but as soon as I hit the dual carriage way or the motorway my temp gauge drops to 0 is this normal?? Any advice will be appreciated

Can anyone give me any advice on this?

I had an issue were my temp gauge would take ages to move off zero even after 2 hours of driving it turned out to be a bust seal on my thermostat. But normally my car sits around your temps then when motorway etc it sits just above 80.

Hi Milo cheers for the reply bud, my temp starts moving after a little while whilst driving round town and sits between 85 n 90 but as soon as I hit the motorway my temp gauge hits 0 this what I don't understand as its never done that in any other car iv had?

the CTS on 2.2 does control the temp gauge i don't know about 1.8 tho, but for what a CTS costs I would change that first to rule that out.

Correct me if im wrong but could it be that the thermostat gets stuck open? Where would the CTS be located on the 1.8 block? Gonna look at draining the cooling system nxt week as well.

Could be the thermostat open hence its cooling right down but on the location on the 1.8 I'm got no idea bud

OK mate cheers for advice, with this keep happening could it be bad for the engine? Fuel consumption is sitting at about 27.4mpg atm

Is this going to cause overheating issues? As when the temp gauge says 0 the actual heat of the engine is so hot ?? Car seems a little down on power at the moment as well, shudders a bit when pulling out at junctions cud be due to dirty tb or the cts .... I got new plugs to go in which r denso iridium's has anyone used these plugs b4?

How many CTS's are there on your car as I know that my old Zafira had two which is why it did the same thing as yours is doing.

This is very similar to my symptoms, changed thermostat and now engine temp sitting low. Poor idle, rough sounding, poor acceleration, judder when pulling away.

At the moment I'm looking at cars as the culprit as i thought exactly what is posted here that the timing is out due to wrong engine temp being sent to ECU thus causing rough running, poor acceleration etc.

Would this be the same for z22yh engine?

I would imagine this would screw up the catalytic convertor through timing along with other things.
