Depends if you get hit for import duties when they arrive. Never heard of them to be honest. Best person would be evocarlos. H3 may know something about them. Plus you would need the gasket as well plus worth doing the crank oil seal.

No import duties here for anything under $1000 AUD.......im in no rush even tho my engine is on its original chains - the timing chain is till tight but the balance chain is a bit noisy it sometimes screeches on start up......a

Awesome - ill go Cloyes then :) - they are like half the price of anything else. Believe it or not my timing chain is still the original and has almost 450,000km on it - and i think its still tight too - only changing them because the balance chain is a bit noisy and sometimes screeches on start up...........

Be careful buying the new Cloyes look a like kits on ebay for under $100
I brought a few to test. First set fitted and 15km latter she all but died, Chain streteched to buggery
2nd set the tensioner you could very very easily push the piston in with your finger without effort (NO WAY was i going to fit it) contacted company and they sent replacement tensioner. The replacement tensioner would not even activate lol... These new cheap ones they are using cloyes part numbers as reference but the product is made in china

as for genuine cloyes ones i have been trialling them for the last 12 months on a few vehicles. The Tensioners are made in Thialand or Taiwan (can't recall) where as the genuine GM ones are German Made but quality pretty simular and i would put faith in it

The Cloyes so far have been fine, cam sprocket keys not as good as genuine and seem a bit cheaply made. The oil seal on the Tensioner i have had 2 that leak and would not seal and had to use the old original washer to make a seal.

Fitted more than 150kits in the last 5 years and probably have 30 cars out there with the cloyes kits.

i think you misunderstand
cloyes supply gm with the chain kit parts for the engines so genuine gm will be cloyes :)

aftermarket are not cloyes just aftermarket and made in china for FAI,lucas, bga and what ever other aftermarket brands there are

chain - made in france
bolts - made in usa
sprokets - made in usa
guides - made in usa
tensioner - made in germany

WP_000160.jpg

you should never expect an aftermarket kit to perform or last as long as a gm kit
but some people dont see the ""cam belt and water pump every 3 years £180"" vs the 2 chains on a ecotec for £280 every 10 years/100k the math works out better for the gm chains

some people buy a car with a z22se for £4-600 then s**t the bed when they see the cost of the chains but they dont think of the above line ^^^^^^ :)

some people dont have a choice and have to buy the aftermarket kits due to not having the money
the aftermarket are a complete replica of the gm kit but made and supplied at a fraction of the value

i will still recommended even if you're a tight wad get a gm main chain kit its the most important to keep the engine from smashing itself and consider that the gm kits have been in cars for 10year so you could expect 10 years life from a gm kit (not to say that poor servicing shortens the life of the chain kits :))

I personally think the black plastic chain guide is a MASSIVE design flaw. I used to think the chain would stretch with time or poor servicing and get loose and hit up against the chain guide and break it. This isn't necessarily the case. My chain guide has cracked off at the very bottom bolt and my chain isn't stretched at all. Got a cloyes kit from www.rockauto.com on the way............wish they would make the black chain guide out of metal with a plastic strip like the top guide rail and then we wouldn't have all these problems

that is not caused from chain stretch its caused from the tensioner sticking while its starting and waiting for oil pressure the chain then either flaps and brakes the guide or works the bolt loose and snappes the bolt then it eats it
you can soon tell if this is happening as the car rattles for 6-10 seconds on startup :)

Well thats good to know cloyes tensioner is made in the same factory. I purchased the cloyes tensioner cause the ACDELCO one was in a diff wharehouse and would have doubled freight cost or something or other :) Yeah my my tensioner was stuck and it was causing tapping sound - no rattle tho - so im hoping the bolt and bolt hole are still ok.

the upgraded design tensioner from cloyes is not made in the same factory as the genuine GM part only the rear chain rail is. Genuine GM tensioners are made in Germany and are the same as the ACDelco
however the original failed design (same as in picture) may have been cloyes
The Tensioner from cloyes now are made in Taiwan but the quality is just about on par.
