Chains?? Febi v FAI v GM ???

So looking at various kits...

Who makes the GM Vauxhall kit??

Febi Bilstein make a lot of parts for GM Vauxhall. Are Febi Bilstein OE??

I have found a claimed original GM Vauxhall balance shaft chain kit for £99.99

I have asked the seller to confirm if it is a genuine GM Vauxhall part.

There seems to be such a spread of prices.

I have seen the kits listed in the forum shop too.

Obviously I want the best kit at the best price....

Autovaux recently had some aftermarket kits avalible cheap.
TC was 72
BC was 70.

I've fitted one set to one of my cars. Guides seemed to be exactly the same as GM ones as were the chains. The sprockets were made of a different material.
Tensioner for timing chain was the newer style and Balance tensioner was exactly the same as GM.

If I were fitting it to my own car that I was keeping I'd be going with GM just for peace of mind but I can't really fault the kit they supplied.

Hi there, just a quick question. Is it worth getting these for my new Signum as the chains are going to be due soon according to mileage.

and this one for balance chain

I see the cam chain kit is labelled as 100% GM part but the balance chain doesn't actually say although it gives the GM part number.

Plus what's the difference between the two Fai balance chain kits in this forums shop?

Thanks for the reply SuperHeavy1203. I appreciate that the ones mentioned are GM items but am I correct in saying that the Z22SE and Z22YH timing chains are different?
Still waiting on a reply to the question regarding the difference in the two FAI balance chain kits that the forum shop is selling. I plan on doing/getting mine done in the next month or so regardless of the fact that there is no noise and that the car exhibits none of the characteristics mentioned elsewhere (noise/poor performance at low revs etc.). From what I can see in the paperwork I received my car has been serviced in accordance with the manufacturers guidelines since it was purchased that last stamp being in October 2014. In addition quite a lot of other items have been done over the years including all new brakes discs/pads in 2012. Was intending doing oil and filter at same time as seems logical, fan belt seems a fair point as well.

I think for the price difference between OE on the ebay link and pattern parts....OE every time.
I service my car 6 monthly, use quality parts like Mann or Mahle or GM.
Didnt stop my chain stretching.
Should have been a duplex chain rather than single.....

Thanks Superheavy1203, I will more than likely go with the balance chain kit linked further up and the timing chain kit (making an assumption that this is the right chain kit for a Z22YH engine) that I found that is from the same seller as the one linked to in an earlier post as mine is the Z22YH engine. Unless of course a local cam specialist company that one of my colleagues know of can do me a better deal on supply and fit.

Pete,

I would not recommend going with an after market balance chain kit. For the sake of a few pounds more get yourself a genuine GM kit from the same seller as the timing chain kit.

Thanks Vocky, I appreciate the info, especially coming from someone who has run one of these cars. Makes it a lot easier knowing that this is what you recommend in the group. I mentioned in another post that I am planning on doing the work myself, but I seem to recall that I saw mention of a PDF about how to change them. I intend getting a Haynes manual anyway so as long as I follow the instructions all should be good. Hopefully, between this post and the other one someone can let me know exactly what I'll need in addition to the chain kits, oil+filter and fan belt.
