Bah a local motor factors used to hire them out but stopped when the prices got silly. I did however get one very similar to the one Carlos has from my local branch of machine mart. £25 should do the job, I didn't want to pay silly money, I don't intend making a habit of valve removal.
Thanks again for the tips guys and yes I'll be doing the valves the old fashioned way.
How long do I have to take it easy for once she's up and running?

Well I did the corsas 16valves in 2 evenings, just sat in my shed with a cup of tea and some music in my ear taking my time.

I had a s**t valve tool that kept slipping off aswell

Lmfao ..
Me thrash it? I've had to keep a lid on it for this long due to the oil, etc. I did plan on taking the head off at some point to see what the problem was, I was hoping for warmer weather and the fact my mot is due nxt week & I've the rose bearings yet to do...
200 miles eh, that's not so bad

No, I'm good thanks Carlos, Lol
It'll be mostly town driving and with the Xmas traffic I don't think I'll be going anywhere too fast!
I did happen to miss the police annual Dec crackdown today, selling tickets for the policemans ball apparently?

Anyone around for a quick question?
Torque setting for head bolts? I got 2 different lots of figures?
The one Carlos posted above & some weird one with the head set....
I only own a torque wrench, no dwell meter!
And do I have to run till warm & then re adjust?

If you don't have angle gauge, mark a line on bolts and try and judge how many degrees it is turned, that's what i done first time i done it.
I never re-adjusted bolts after engine was warm, once it's done that's it . Haynes manual doesn't tell you to do that

Torque settings are Nm

Thanx for all your help guys, I got it all back together late yesterday afternoon, I omitted a few brackets here and there as it was going dark and I've just the egr cheater left to rewire.
She fired up and was a little lumpy and my heart sank, but a little patience and half hour later she's running sweet again.

Another quick question regarding the timing....
Since reassembly the engine management light has been on, idk if that's the egr cheater that's failed or I've still not wired it properly. (I have the bits to make another that's no problem) but I took the car for it's mot today & he's failed it on a track rod end & the emissions. Since then it's been blowing a little blue smoke and the tester asked if I'd set the timing correctly?
Surely if I was just one tooth out on either cam it wouldn't run or tick over??

You need a code reader to tell you what exactly the management light is on for
If your timing is out the car would not start. A typical response from a mechanic that finds it hard to swallow that someone who is not a mechanic managed to do timing chains. I know this from experience.

My car has failed on emissions 2 years running each time I flush the engine then put clean oil and new oil filter, new air filter and this does the job it passes.
Someone with more garage experience has said to me people don't realise the oil affects emissions as well and he was right

If you feel the need you put redex in before oil change and have a blast on the motorway before going back for re-test.

Cheers Idi, one of the guys said take it for a blast but with only having 50miles on it since rebuild I was a little iffy?
I'll recheck the egr cheater wiring b4 then & treat it to a bit of redex and a blast up the dual carriageway then I'll change the oil and filters before retest on Monday.
In the meantime I can do the track rod ends and put the new shocks one the back, they were advisory last year and passed again?
Amazingly the rose bushes are still good after being an advisory last year? I did buy a set to put in before the mot but obviously engine not running took priority.
I did wonder wtf he meant about timing it up properly considering it's a chain & it's either right or wrong?
