My car runs on fully synthetic and my oil filter is always twisted and knackered. There always seems to be a debate over wheather to run the z22se on fully synthetic or semi?

I would personally change it every 10.000 miles, how ever as they say the 5w 40 fully sythetic oil is a long life oil, one would assume you could use it through to 20.000 miles. I used to have an Audi TDI before my 2.2 and that was run on the same 5w 40 at 20.000 intervals. play it safe chap 10.000. :)

The cam chain issue is a bit worrying but once its been done there's nothing to worry about for another 100,000 miles. There's a few chaps on here, Daz and Benny who will gladly do your chain kit replacement if you needed it doing for a fraction of the £600 that Vauxhall charge.

My car has only done about 5.5k in nearly 2 years and i've changed the oil 4 times!!

The z22se engine is a good solid reliable engine. 10,000k oil changes are a bit of a long stretch in my book but each to their own.

i have changed my oil at 4k in every car Ive had at £17 a tub(genuine gm oil to) that's less than half price of magnatec and it don't hurt to change it and it keeps the engine fresh
you should see the crap that comes out after 4k i cant imagine how the oil looks after 10k and with a potential timing chain bomb and blocked oil jet i know what I'd rather do :)

I use Shell Helix Ultra fully synthetic 5-40w and do a oil & filter change every 3-4k only thing about the shell helix is they only do 4ltr bottles so when I do a change I need to buy the 4ltr about £50 and a ltr bottle about £15 a bit expensive but it's the oil my mechanic recomends and I don't buy the oil off him or get him to do my services I just trust what he thinks as he preps Rally cars etc...

I cover about 50 miles a day I so change the oil (GM semi-synthetic 10w 40) + oil filter every 3000 - 4000 miles and it comes out pretty filfthy so I really wouldn't be happy going to 10,000 miles. When you think how much it costs to fill up with a tank of petrol it's good value especially with all the worry about blocked oil jet on the timing chain. It's about the easiest job and arguably the one of the most important things to service.
