Suspected cam chain slipped

Aye,it is head turner like. Its had a bit money n time chucked at it,but needs some more,i never got any hostory with it either which is pain in ass. So.ebodys tried change fob battery the wrong way too so needs new key but bcoz dont hav history il need get immobiliser code etc as well. Main reason i came on was because of whine coming from it up to 2000rpm,sounds like the thrust bearing but doesnt do it when clutch depressed,tbf iv not investigated it further to see if its alternator bearing or ac or worse,was on here to see if any common faults etc. As i say its been vectra V6s iv had for last while

Cheers n nothing yet mate,il get the wee niggly things sorted 1st like selector soup bowl lol,iv seen a few manifold decat pipes that take my fancy tho on ebay. I tell a lie iv dropd the air box n put a cone filter on i had lying about. Its actually pretty revvy between 40 n 90mph,n been lowerd with eibachs so handles pretty good. Oh its got a sticky nsr calliper too,need strip it down n check slides n piston. On holiday tomoz so goni address the calliper 1st

I wouldnt have thought alternator or ac, with it being silent when clutch is depressed id say more likely gearbox related as u say could be thrust bearing, any clutch slip?
First thing would be get the selector issue sorted.

ported polished head , balance shaft delete , knocked out pre cat ,that's it for now , looking to turbo it when I find a cheap saab 9-3 aero???

Soz mate the whiney noise is stil there when clutch pedal put down. Im no sure,its same noise the wee ratlley 1 litre corsas make,u know the noise i mean? Lol. It had full rebuild 20k ago though so shouldnt be anything chain related,should/could it

Have u noticed differance figo? I knocked the insides out a X25 n it created huge flat spot low down. Also whats script with balancing shaft n chain,this is bit thats new to me lol

figo126 im in same position, getting the niggles sorted first lol not decided what im gonna do with it yet, like it standard but at same time ive got the bigger bhp ideas in my head but superchargers or turbos might be out my price range. u thought of a salvaged 9-3 to take bits off? prob cheaper buying a cosmetically damaged one for the mechanicals

Binzoboy not a wheel bearing is it, does it get louder the faster you go?

Na mate defo engine,sitn in drive n giv accelarator wee push n u get that wee racey whiney noise,dip clutch n do it n it still does it,its a bearing on its way out or dry or something like that,plenty oil in it as well. Thats a good point bcoz iv seen a few differant views n options,cars done 119k wots best oil to put in it? I tood it up other day with 5w30 semi,lucky if it took 200ml to bring it up to just under max

Thats was my process of elimination mate,its bn raining last few days up here n kids on holiday so its had to wait lol. I see the vx220 aux belt fits it n does away with ac,miby get 5 days a year when you need air conditioning in scotland lol ,decent wiper blades r far more appreciated hahaha

theres a link on here somewhere , for both mate , if your ok with spanners you shoud be fine , after you've had chains off a few times like I did when building mine youll be a pro ????????

ive ported throttle body aswell , ive got a flat spot in the mid range , needing a remap or live mapping ???

Lol,im hoping its just air con or alternator bearing figo. Aye iv been known to be a bit of a wrench monkey in my time lol. Always good to get bit more info on something youv no really had much to do with. Went from nova sr's to corsa b gsi's to red top cavs to X+ Y25s Y26s so on,lol,the 2.2 bit got kinda missed out

Thats wot i got when knocked insides out a cat b4,dont know if it upsets the airflow bcoz of shape of cat. This astra pulls well from early on but above 5000 it feels like it gives up,im no sure if its coz used to bigger engines delivering power bigger n later in rev range,feel like im moaning about it lol, but its actually alright for wot it is a 13 yr old astra,n still quite pokey n revvy
