Couldn't answer whether it's to do with it being an auto as never tried it on mine. Glad you got it sorted though. As I said, they are chains in this engine and there are two (if you didn't already know that). It's about a six hour job to do them (unless your evocarlos then it's about five, lol...
First thing to ask is what mileage has it done and have the chains been done? I've not had that issue (same engine and box in a Signum) but have had mine stick in gear when pulling away on a hill. I believe that when the chains stretch or jump it can throw up some issue especially as the Direct...
That seems a very good price. It's six hours I believe (although the guru evocarlos can probably do them quicker) and as KevinH says, have some instant gasket handy for the sump just in case. When Carl did mine it took six hours with me chatting and listening. I fitted genuine chains as...
evocarlos recommended to me along with many others that at the very least you should replace the timing chain with a genuine one but the balance chain can be a FAI one. When Carl did mine it was about six hours from drive in to drive out but that was with me chatting to him and stops for...
As KevinH has said (and exactly what I was about to lol), poor servicing does them no favours (which is why mine gets an oil and filter every 5K). You would have to strip it to confirm which chain is making the noise and as Kev says, your better off doing both. I got mine done by evocarlos with...
Makes you wonder what VX would think if they ever got their hands on your car. They'd probably be mmmming and aaaaahing all over it looking at all the cool mods your're doing. Great work mate, always intrigued by what your doing with your car.
Remember that the oil will be circulating round the gears etc. (I assume that this is the case as with a manual box) when the engine is running and the box is in "P" (park). So the readings will be different to when the engines off and the box internals aren't moving.
