why is my chain dipping then when rotating crank is it stretched ? it can be the only other logical explanation
I'm sure it has been more soilid than that before with very little movement

I have a second hand GM chain i may put this in to see if there is any difference

Not sure about that ,but there was nothing to suggest it was stiff ,apart from the new valve guide but visually i never noticed any problem it was getting easier to turn the only thing i could see wrong was the chain dipping between the sprockets and this suggests a stretched chain you say the tensioner is normal so i don't know what else to think is wrong

i saw this with @carson_sri car when i did his balancer chain the other week the old main chain was reused as it was only fitted a year ago
the tensioner was the one i stripped and cleaned then blew out with the air line once the engine was primed and then run it seemed fine and ive not had a phone call to say hes broken down

I have established 125% that i have a stretched chain. I put on this GM chain from a 2nd hand engine i bought couple of years ago and there is no dipping when rotating the crank which i done 3 times .
So that is a shame , but not helped much by removing and refitting several times but i would have thought that should not have made much difference

What an adventure it's been .
So it must have been down to the chain which has been giving me grief

I have just done my first 100 miles took rocker cover off cause i had not used any silicone round gasket and it was leaking a little last night ,so when i removed cover just now to do the work i discovered this was wondering what the cause is @evocarlos .



It did not seem to cause any problems while driving but i think i was lucky to discover this before any serious damage occurred .
Would it be possible to put this back by loosening carrier cap bolts a little to allow it to slip back into place maybe it was not seated properly ,wondering how else this happened

Managed to get it in again hopefully it's sorted, just the tip of the valve sits a bit further under on the other tappets, hoping it moves into position a little better fingers crossed, see if you can spot the difference

i discovered this was wondering what the cause is

normally a bent valve but you have just done them

you can but it should not be able to remove it after if you can remove it with the cam lobe facing up then theres an issue
there should be less than a 1mm gap between the roller rocker and the cam when fitted

Id give that a few turns by hand before starting.

It should reseat itself id say.
