hessitant when giving it some,

Hi folks

Well lately i have noticed my pride & joy (2.2) is not happy,

When i put my foot down its hessitant then finds its breath and goes, this even happens when sitting and i give it a fast rev, it seems hessitant / grumpy then picks up.
though if i rev it not too fast it is great!! just to make it harder there are no managment lights up on the dash.

Any thoughts ?

i have checked & cleaned TB / all the connections i can see / air flow sensor (in the intake pipe) / EGR valve / vacaum pipe / lots of things etc etc . . . . .

Also not sure if its just me & my imagination but it seems to go better when its cold ( like when the choke is on) but as I say not 100% about this, might just be me trying to find signs

I've found if you put your foot flat to the floor it doesnt like it. Feeding the throttle in to about 80% max gives me the best response if i really need to boot it.

Other than that, not sure. Coil pack maybe. Taking the precat out helps a lot low down, if yours even has one.

Hi L1ght1ng, thanks for the reply,,,

Pre cat been done last year, Any way of testing/checking the coil pack ?

P.S when I said I checked the EGR valve,,, I took it off and cleaned it, plugged it back in, turned the key on / off few times and it seemed to open and close ok ?

Hi again folks,,

Well im still stuck as to what my problem is  ?? what about you Vocky ?

Can I just ask, , , when i checked / cleaned the EGR valve, plugged it back in & turned key on/off to see if the valve was moving, and it did. Does this mean its working fine or will a faulty one do this anyway ?

Sounds like the EGR is working properly, its when its stuck open that it causes a problem. What about your fuel filter, when was that last changed if ever? Air filter? strugeling to think of much more.

Im having the same problem.
Seems ok when its cold but when engine warms up you have to feed the throttle otherwise it judders as though its missfiring
Ive read around a couple of astra/vectra forums but I have got better info from here.
All of the below parts have been mentioned for similar symptoms.
New igintion coil (deteriorates over time) £119, Vauxl spares centre
Front lambda sensor (accumilates deposits over time & through various problems see: http://www.lambdasensor.co.uk/main/mfaults.htm ) £52.70, Autovaux
Air tempterature sensor (when I brought my car this was hanging out  of the intake pipe thus may have caused lambda sensor to get sooted up (see fault B on web link above)) £32.31, local stealers
EGR blanking plate £2.35, local stealers

All to go on this weekend.
I may have spent a few quid but I know how frustrating  this problem is so I want to get it sorted.

Will post with conclusion when all fitted and thoroughly tested. (Fingers crossed)

Hi Zoots & Lighting

Both filters changed about 6-7 months ago with all the other service stuff.

Zoots yours indeed sounds exactly the same as my problem, even when not driving, put your foot down and it starts to strugle then the revs pick up.

you could really help me out, if you could test after each part is fitted then you and I would know what is the causing this fault, I cant afford to go and start buying parts to eleminate it :(
Any info you could offer me after fitting the parts, i would be very thankful.

Its doing my head in noth. And its up for MOT soon.

Hope to hear you soon & best of luck

I have solved my problem showo..

Before I started to do anything I thought it would be a wise idea to see what the spark plugs looked like since I had not inspected them since I bought the car (yes I know your all saying bloody idiot). To be honest they werent a lot of cop. They were only single prong and the head had been completely burn off. This has somewhat vexed me since I have had the car serviced at the local stealers every year. I thought they were replaced every year?
Anyway, so off I went to my spare parts box and luckily found 4 left over from my calibra days, unused too. In they went in and the new ignition pack cos the old one had started to corrode on the contacts. A long test drive later and alls well, no hesitation at all, infact it felt like I had gained alot more power, obviously to do with the spark plugs having practically no contact and a gap you could of parked your bike in!!

So the egr blanking plate went on and the new lambda sensor just to give the engine a little extra treat since it had been deprived of some proper TLC.

The old lambda sensor was ok, no sooting up as I thougt it would be and the air temperature sensor is still on backorder as its gotta come over from germany. I may cancel it on monday tho.

If my spark plugs were ok I would say it would have been the ignition pack, but cant say for sure, tho as Lightning Coupé says try that, it seems to be a common problem.

I missed this thread

the first thing I would of said would be the spark plugs, only use genuine triple electrode plugs, the single electrode don't seem to last very long in the z22se engine for some strange reason :?

Oh well never mind, at least shes had a good once over this weekend.

I see that the single electrode ones dont last very long they were totally f***ed!

The ones I used to replace were genuine vauxhall triple electrode, from about 4 years ago.

Cheers zoots

ok then im on the look out for a coil pack then? any you folks have a spare ?
I fitted new genuine triple electrode plugs about 6 months ago!! I presume they are ok.
Would it be likley that one is breaking down after this short time ?

Astra MK4 1998-2005; Engine code: Z22SE, From Chassis number
32000001, 35000001, 36000001, 38000001, 3H000001

thats nothing like my chassis number,,, Will it matter ?

Hi,

I thought I'd post as I too experience this problem and this thread seems nearest the mark in terms of a solution. I'd just like to highlight a quote from another thread in this forum too:

From https://z22se.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=7469

Every so often when accelerating the neadle gets to about 3500 and the power juts ci=uts off and the revs drop. The car slows down until the revs get to about 2000 or I lift off and put back on again.
This happens in second mainly and sometimes in third occationally but on Saturday it happened three times in a row from three different roundabouts on the Lincoln bypass.

I suffer this fairly frequently, particularly on longer runs when the engine is fully warm. I can downshift for a corner, into either second or third, driving very conservatively and not particularly fast but when it comes to applying power out of the corner it hesitates to the point it tries to give up. I usually dump the clutch, rev the nuts off it then pick up again and all is well.

I've had this happen to me around 10 times now and it's always coming out of corners in second or third gear and trying to accelerate.

I'm interested in CBR600rr's results after fitting the coil pack to see if this issue has been resolved. After searching this and other forums it appears to happen to many others too.

This is the old girl:

IMG_3738.JPG

The car is very reliable, pulls sweetly, is economical so why does it occasionally do this? I will change the plugs for new and if CBR600rr has success with the coil pack will do that too but I can't recall this ever happening when it's cold, on short journeys, when caning it, on straights, whether it's hot or cold. Nothing matters except for coming out of a corner in second or third and it stutters. The symptom can only be described as 'running on 3 cylinders' or 'running out of fuel'.

Weird!
