Hi,

I know this has prob been done to death, and I am going to get my ar$e handed to me on a plate but I have to ask the question. I am most likley blind and its under my nose but the more I look into turbo charging the Vectra z22se the less evidence I find showing that it that it has been done with any success in the UK. notsure.gif

Just a couple of poor examples that I could get may hands on, one example of a project build and a american forum generally discussing it.

I have checked a lot of American sites and there appears to be examples of a number of people that have done this to the L4 (L62) 2.2 ecotec, with collected kits and off the shelf such as Hann/Garrett (designed for stock internals) and GM build books etc Its seems plausable to borrow parts from the z20net, LSJ and B207r such as the TB, turbo, manifold, oil feeds, intercooler, piping etc (the recommended components are at least well documented) with some fabricated parts running at v.low (v.v.low) boost on the standard management.

You could perhapse then consider lower compression pistons, injectors and a standalone management such as Megasquirt or Omex 710 as the Vectas Delphi/Delco GMPT-E15 management is not what you would call popular, But again there has been comments about Courtney being able to use the GM supercharger map but you check another thred and its suggested that they would not do it. The same for regal and the Diblas kit remap.

Which brings me onto the UK Kits you can purchase. It has to be said they are expensive  but you do get what you pay for with a lot of labor, knowledge. Its just not practical for a car worth £1.5k to spend £4 -£6K.

What I am happy to pay is about £2k to source the parts muck about do some bits myself learn how or pay for help when needed, again this seems possible from what I have read but has anyone suceeded, or did they chase their tail for a bit and then opted the engine swap or SC conversion (which I am not suggesting is the easy option and comes with its own set of challenges) :)

Thanks in advance for any info.

There was a Regal Turbo'd Astra in Total Vauxhall a couple of months back, using the Dbilas kit and the Z20LET wiring/ECU

Thats interesting, Will have to find a back issue or a scan. (y)

Was trying to avoid using a loom from another car, as I dont belive my expertise would stretch that far :problem: (that and my patience :D ) and turn into a project within a project leaving the car out of commision for weeks.

This is one of the things I need to reserch more ie can you use the ecu (leaving immobilisers etc out of it for a second) and loom from another car just on the engine or does the hole car need to be done? sorry if its a stupid question, I expect the answer is both, but I am interested in what's recommended and whats worked for others, not to copy you understand just so I am heading in the right direction. :D

Liked the idea of standalone management and the Omex unit. Credit to woodenspatulas who runs a Saab lump (not the b207r) with re-maped management, his misses's car has a Z20NET with Omex which he says has given really good results. This is what I am looking into at the moment. The software is v.good.

btw, AtomX had a turbo kit for sale not to long ago it would be great if he could share what his plans were before decideding go in a different direction. Hows the member that purchased it getting on do we know?

Just found a good begineers guide on a states side site incase anyone else looking to turbocharge the z22 is finding it hard to find a starting point.

.....and this site which has the GM build book PDF for download, lots of good information in this.

I've got the magazine in front of me now.

It's Issue 111 - July 2010

I'll take it to work tonight, and see if I can scan it in for you.

Cheers Matt, cheers..

That is a great article, thanks for scans I get TV on and off and must have missed this one.

That was exactly what I was looking for, you do not realize how happy I am that someone made it work without a new loom and with a mixture of parts you would expect. Of course he’s looking at big power now and I can’t wait for future updates.

I would be over the moon with 180bhp and no smoke. :D

What is great about this is that its evidence for anyone planning such a conversion that’s its possible and that they won’t be wasting their time.

Thanks again.
