Column Integrated Module CIM - information desirable

In addition to ECU, present day cars are often equipped by a second functional block with central position, the failure of which may put the car out of function. For Vauxhall / Opel cars, the Column Integrated Module CIM is concerned, made by the DELPHI company.
It is located underneath the steering wheel around its column. The device design simplifies the car electricity network especially nearby the steering column (CAN type data buses are of 2-wire only) and, by means of reducing the network complexity, this also improves its reliability. The car steering column is surrounded by the steering angle sensor inside CIM. Two stalk switches and also the ignition key box are integrated directly into CIM.

CIM is an electronic hub with its own intelligence, where CAN data buses (low, medium and high speed) are connected. CIM communicates with ECU and controls the car dashboard displays (icons …). It monitors and controls some car functional blocks: power assisted steering, ESP, airbags, immobiliser ... , processes the information coming from these blocks and from its own steering angle sensor, two stalk switches and ignition key box.
Taking in account the CIM principal importance within the car configuration, it is necessary to take care about its perfect condition. Discussions on web show that CIM problems annoy some owners of the cars equipped with this device.
Unfortunatelly, the CIM device is able to initiate some misleading information about the car condition. Sometime, CIM declares a fault non existing in reality. Based on my own experience as well as the information on the web http://www.motor-talk.de/forum/cim-defekt-t3309159.html, for instance the following fault is concerned: engine MIL (Malfunction Indication) icon, ESP icon and the steering wheel icon with exclamation symbol are displayed although the car power assisted steering works normally.
Diagnostic tester reports the following codes
U2139 – CAN bus no communication with CIM
U2108 – CAN bus no communication with ABS
P0605 – Malfunction Indicator MI

In such a situation, it can be found on the web the following proposals what could be done
- Check the CIM fuse
- Check on-board network voltage (14 V)
- Check the grounding of the steering column or make a new one
- Clean the CIM connector contacts
- Check all connections going from CIM

Knowing the crucial importance of the CIM module assembly in the car, I would like to gain maximum information about this device and its integration into the car electricity network.
So, may be this forum here could help in this activity (links to sources of information …), the information would be certainly useful for other Vauxhall / Opel owners of cars with CIM module.
