Tonight...................
I set about getting the dredded holes in the bell housing. I went out last night to Maplins and bought a new smaller right angled drill head for £8.99. I offered up the modified stbby drill bit in the new angled head and I was still finding an issue with fouling. I then decided to have a go at drilling the hole from the other side. I needed to grind away some of the casing to expose a small pilot hole.
I did this first and then drilled the hole out and tapped it to M12. Unfortunately I don't have a pic of the drilling operation as it blew up and fell to pieces as it broke thru' the back of the hole. Can't complain though!! It go the most important hole done and for £8.99 i'm happy with that.
Anyway, with that done I then drilled the lower hole with my old angled head. I did have to modify the back end of chuck though. I needed to reduce the diameter of the chuck so I plunged it into the bench grinder. Hole in and tapped out and mount fitted.
I have found an issue with the brackets though. It appears that the Vectra engine is mounted further back than the Astra. This makes the brackets short and not reach the sub frame. Also, one of the brackets will need modifying as the sub frame cross member (Vectra only) is in the way. I'm sure between Daz and myself we can sort something out. Basically we need to extend the brackets by welding on an extension piece to enable welding to the sub frame and attaching to the mount. This was never going to be a straight forward job but it'll be worth it in the end.
