A flow meters not hard to make with a Hoover, a valve, some pipes and a bit of water.

Attached is a schematic of how to make a simple flow bench,

P1 and P2, the pressure across a fixed orifice will give the flow rate as a pressure difference you can find data that will allow you to size the orifice to give you the actual flow rate but for comparison you can just delta P.

Then the pressure across P3 and P4 is the pressure loss through the valve, you can use the butter fly valve at the inlet to change the flow rate through the valve a build up a flow vs pressure loss curve.

You don't nee digital gauges just a piece of clear tube with coloured water in it to show the pressure difference.

do I need to use a 90 degree elbow, also what would the best diameter pipe be ?

I understand P1 + P2 as thats how I used to connect flow meters across orifices many moons ago, but it's just the P3 + P4 which I don't get

The elbow bit is supposed to be the the port, the best size pipe would be somthing with a similar cross sectional area as the ports.

the P3 is the inlet pressure to the port and P4 is the outlet pressure of the port.

my new cam cover arrived today 😃

so who makes the vectra z20net cam cover ..........

the coilpack/spark plug cover arrived along with the water pipe 🙂

This enabled me to carry out a few modifications to allow the parts to work together

this is the water pipe temporally fitted, I reduced the size of the mounting bracket as it had an additional mounting for a turbo application - which is not required :lol:
I also trial fitted the water temperature gauge sender unit adaptor, the revotec sender is M10x1 and the saab head was M12x1.5

next job was to modify a spare coil pack, I removed the coilpack's plastic trim/cover and also the coil pack amplifier unit as the webcon Alpha ecu doesn't require it.

then the original z22se mounting lugs were cut back, this allows the coilpack to sit in the saab cam cover, this showed up another minor problem, the saab cam cover has four mounting lugs for seperate coils, two of these were touching the plastic surrounding the coils in the z22se coilpack, so a quick trim back of the lugs with my die-grinder cured that.
I also mounted a small alloy bracket to the end of the coilpack, this will be used to mount the webcon Alpha cable connector.

these are the two modified lugs

so now the saab coilpack/sparkplug cover holds the z22se coilpack in position :thumbup:

the 'saab / lsj / z20net' cylinder head has an extra ancillary drive fitted to the exhaust cam. The z22se exhaust camshaft is shorter so unless you use 'saab / lsj / z20net' cams you need to blank off two oilways.

the first is for the cam bearing and the second is an oil feed for the exhaust cam driven ancillary.

I had several ideas to blank these off but decided on a simple method, drill and tap M10x1.5 and fit a matching grubscrew with some threadlocker.

These are the two oilways circled in red, I have already drilled and tapped them :thumbup:

tip: to open up the oblong cam bearing oilway I started with a 4mm drill bit and then increased the hole size in steps of 0.5mm until I reached the required size for the tap.

this is the blanking plate I made from a piece of 10mm alloy plate I had laying about, it simply covers the ancillary takeoff :thumbup:

my supertech spring kit arrived from the states 🙂

I'm impressed with the quality, they will fit without any machining too :thumbup:

after reading about potential problems with installed spring height on various sites, I can now see that the spring retainer is made so the installed height is correct and there was never going to be a problem in the first place !

funny you should mention valve seals, I was just going to post a pic :lol:

the standard z22se valve stem seals are part of the valve spring seat, but the double valve stems come with their own spring seat which has no stem seal 🙁

two options, firstly buy a ready made set as Alanoo kindly pointed out or modify the original type, two guesses which method I used....

so to modify the standard z22se valve stem seals you need to remove the valve spring seat, this was done with a Dremel. They need cutting downwards into the shoulder rather than across into the seal. Then the stem seals were cleaned up with my bench grinder. Thus a perfect set of stem seals :thumbup:
