One thing about the saab head was a lack of EGR , I have found the z22se egr cheater does not like the piggy back ecu and goes APE ( just read my history on this, wasn't the injectors or fuel) so if I got one it would have to have the stand alone, was hoping to work with the piggy back I have.LSJ head ?

It could be worth sourcing the block from the saab engine as well as IIRC it has pistion cooling oil jets already installed.

you should also modify the charge cooler to make it double pass to increses cooling.

LSJ head/engine = engine from the US 2.0 supercharger cobalt

Basically exactly the same internals, block and head as the Saab tubby.

Usually you can find some in the US around the 400$ mark

What was decided re the exhaust cam on the saab head?

Would getting a saab 2.0 engine and fitting it up with good internals, then doing a transplant be easier in the end?

Not exactly
The 8.9:1 ones are meant for boost, and are around 330g if I remember well, they are way stronger than the 10:1 ones which are 280g and are optimized for NA applications !

If you want a 10:1 or 10.5:1 you will have either to have specially made ones from Wiseco, or go for another brand (I guess Diamond Racing make some really good boosted pistons for the L61)
Always ask for an L61 when ordering internals in the US

For the head, source a guy called MVP on cobaltss.net or fullthrottle on ecotecforum.com, he got a spare head some weeks ago.
Or maybe try to ask dude on vx220.org.uk (I believe he has an account here too notsure.gif )

did a bit of digging around, and looks like a saab engine (head and block) can be had for about £1000 inc vat and delivery.
Has anyone done this transplant before?

it's not quite so straight forward, but isn't that difficult

flywheel - it has one less bolt than a z22se (or maybe one more)

inlet manifold - the engine breather is slightly different to the 2.2, but a sc inlet manifold should be fine

I can't remember the other odd bits

I am running through the colbolt forum now, wow there are LOADS of pages real PITA to get the info I want. so far the only set of figures I have are from a guy with a 2.0 s/c which without remaping, so a straight swop went from 244bhp/223T to 278/243, not to bad. I dont have too long to get it ordered so am still reading there and not posting here 🙂

(+ a bigger TB if you still have the one from the 2.2)

I am not sure how the actual version of Courtenay's SC conversion works, still with a piggyback and auxiliary injectors ?

Yep that's how Courtenays's do it.

I already have a 68tb on it, I if these are standard injectors I wonder what there quoted rate is?

I know this will show how little I know but the lsj is a 2.0 and 2.2 lt engine ? how come the stuff attached to it bolts stright onto the z22se He askes because I don't want to spend over a grand and find it doesn't fit.

That's somthing I've been considering although it will depend on

1 how many miles my engine is on by the time I come to do it, as it's on 60k now and the added cost of a full rebuild may make it more economical

2 If the AIM piggy back will work as if I've got to go stand alone ECU then there'll be no major advantage keeping the 2.2

The 2.0l may also rev abit faster and be more suited to the VX anyway, they've already put a tuned one in the exige in the US http://www.secantvehicles.com/

At least I have use of a second car now (my dad's jaguar x type), as the folks have moved to malaysia for 18 months with his job.

My car's approaching 75,000 miles now, but I'm starting a new job MUCH closer to home in 2 weeks (and will actually be working at home most of the time), which has quite flexible hours.

So this year some time is going to be ideal circumstances for such a project... dunno...

It won't work with a piggyback and the standard VX220 ECU... because the trigger wheel patterns are totally different
