Probably talking close on 10k, and to be honest on a veccy or astra, thats a damn lot of money, 220 i can see the point in a way as it is a sports car, but not spunking 10k on a 5-6k normal car.

I agree as the current conversion is expensive as the head has to come off to fit the decomp plate so you half way to changing the pistons and rods.

imho you could easily run the AEM FIC which can increase fuelling and retard the ign for the S/C requirements, and its only £200 with openly avialable setup software.... w00t.

I have been looking into a SC conversion aswell, if I do the work myself its going to be much cheaper than the Courtenay conversion, and thats with Eagle rods and lower comp. Wiseco pistons. Im probably going for the AEM FIC. This will probably be next winters project. Now Im working on a custom 4-2-1 manifold that I hope will be completed before the season starts...

I've been thniking this is the best/easiest way to get good power at a decent price, the only thing that puts me off a bit is mapping the thing as there doesn't seem to be much support over this side of the pond.

Just remember that this has to be fitted with forged rods and pistons (lowering the CR is not necessary)

Stock bottom end will never survive around the 300bhp mark

Honestly you really can "easily" reach a 360bhp mark with this TVS, but you'll have to work a lot on cooling, and work a lot on the bottom end.
Also I doubt it will be possible without a real standalone ECU.

coolings going to be the main issue, the Laminova setup is designed for no were near the heat rejection levels required.

It'll prob require a seperate CC in the side pod like the VXT ProAlloy one in the side pod and custom manifolds. I had a look at the package space and it should be easily possible if you mount the SC outlet upwards and run the pipe work round the front of the engine to the drivers side pod where the VXT CC mounts. only prob is that you may encounter more 'lag' in the sysetem due to the increased volume.

Not to mention that anything over 300 bhp needs a new fuel pump in the VX.

Yep, and you need 10:1 or 10.5:1 CR forged pistons... but not the 283g Wiseco ones which are NA ones (very light... on the weight but not only).
You need some very good piston pins too, as you do not have the oil squirters in the z22se
+at least way better exhaust valves (of a good brand) and a huge porting of the exhaust ports.
+ARP/Eagle head and main studs

it really is the minimal list of parts needed to have a "good" reliability

How easily would this be able to be "de-tuned"? for example, if I only wanted to run at a lower bhp for the time being due to stock engine internals. Would the compression still need to be reduced, or could it be made to only give out a low boost (bigger pulley?)

with a bigger pulley it would run slower and thus less power

I have a charge cooler same as the VXT which will go under the rad. Jims exhaust system (at some stage hopefully soon)

10.1 or 10.5 forged pistons
ECU ( ouch) that will be a real pain
Ported head. Being sourced now

Do I do a new build if I can get an engine, sell mine as is or swop the s/c over and do the internals at the same time?

You forgot the forged rods too (again some chance as they are cheap)

For the head, try to source a full (or full without cams) Saab or LSJ head and get it ported.
That way you'll have the better valves you need and stiffer springs which support a bit higher RPM.

Then, if you go with a standalone, you should get some blower grind cams too (especially if you have the uprated springs and valves). Comp cams does some cheapo blower grind.

You'll have something like 330++hp I guess, at this point you'll have to buy a Holy Bible and prey God your cast iron cylinder sleeves will survive a bit more than a few track miles before morphing into rugby ball clones 😃
