I went and had a chat with the guy and he is happy to make more up but after Christmas. I picked mine up and it is stunning he knows his stuff. I went for a 63mm hole and it's now being made up will let you know the cost later. The flnge was £20 not certain about the pipework yet . The guy doing it is going to try to bend a 180 first if no joy then 2x90's and welded I hope not but watch this space.

aside from it not being as sexy any reasons to NOT use Mild steel for this and some other exhaust bits...

the way I see it is lots of mates have run poor quality Mild Steel manifolds + systems on their front mounted front exhausted cars for years with no real rot/issues... so fitting it up the back out of the way and protected largely from the elements should mean it would last longer... plus 4 years is a long ole time anyway lol...

Just need a Mild steel manifold -> head flange.

Since these U-bends will be too big to fit the original protection, they're going to be in the wheel arch getting salt, water, grit, etc blown up onto them at cough 70mph. My original mild steel U-bend is amazingly rusty already, and I had to cut all 3 bolts off to get it out. I painted it with HT paint, but most of that has come off already.

For the extra (which i assume isn't too much) i'd think SS would be well worth it.

I appreciate that the new U bend would get more salt, but if its only £30 every 3 years or something then thats decent VFM im my book(edit) could always have it ceramic coated to protect it mroe (cheap too)

I think SS is pretty easy to weld with MIG/ARC + TIG. Sometimes it's a pain to cut though, but grinding disks have worked well for me so far...

I'll see though, because when the pipe supplier finally ships me the correct stuff (2 months late!!!) I'll be trying to fab the cat pipe for my Tsudo header. I've got some ARC rods I was planning to use - I'm still not sure I'm skilled enough for TIG 😉

True the pipe will probably last 3 years, more with a coating. I just hate seeing stuff rust away after i've spent ages sourcing + making it 🙂

I can barely MIG so mild was going to be the easy option lol.

The flanges are no problemsthats sorted. The guy who made the first one up for me, I'm not certain about but this is this first attempt.

Not a good a Vocky but who can be :lol: had to put it on I need to go back to get him to do a quick weld where the Miktek cat goes into the U bend as the flange there is leaking (Miltek side)

The cost was £60+£20 for the Flange. I am looking at somewhere else now to do the fabrication as I would prefers a better curve. opions please.

Sorry Nick but there is no way I would have paid for that, the effects on flow can't be good. Get them to do it again properly.

You want a continuous radius if possible.

I know, it's not a bad as it looks in the photo but I have another contact and a least I can use the flange again!!!!!!!!

The flange looks nice. £20 seems a little steep though. It would probably be cheaper if we could get a load of them made by someone with a CNC plasma cutter - I guess it isn't a standard size 🙁

Shame about the tight bend - but I think getting the angle required is difficult. My bends are so late coming because the benders kept breaking their machine every time they tried to bend my tube!

Almost put this but thought twice sorry for lowering the tone.

Thinking of waiting for a turbo backbox and connecting pipe (2.5" diameter) to replace my modified back box but they seem difficult to get hold of at the moment at a cheap price?

TMS reckons they just scrap the old tubby backboxes when they install a new one. It might be worth getting them to put one to the side?

Good news I have just spoken to another guy he is making one up for Monday, he already has the flanges. Doesn't seem to think it should be a problem, showed him the picture of the previous one I had made and he agrees too tight wtf.. If I'm not happy I don't need to pay he is going with Vocky's 2x90 bends. Sorry guys I thought the first one would have been better as he was recommended :cry: Something about fool and money!!!!

turbo box is 2.25" which is the diameter ive put right throo my system, wish i'd went for 2.5" tho but cant see .25 making much difference notsure.gif

theres some stainless flanges on ebay atm for 6.99 each btw
