actually you want higher flow at low engine speeds as the water needs to get round to help warm the block form cold and also once warm to keep it at a fixed temp, also at higher engine speeds the mechanical pumps tehm to cavatate as they are "tuned" for a certain max limit etc.

£325 for 5bhp is still better than some ummmm "electronic" mods you can get lmao

If you look at page one of this thread there is a short chain conversion. Could this not be fitted with the shafts in place and the sprockets removed??

The plan has worked got you all thinking again and would like 10 bhp for relatively little cost and a weekend in the garage. 😃

Don't like the electric pump idea if the reliability isn't there, and it is increasing the cost.

the short chain version uses the mounting hole originally used by the exhaust balancer shaft bearing, so the shaft needs to be secured another way dunno..

How are the grears attached to the shafts. Ccould you make them rotate, without rotating the shaft itself, that would also mean no need to change the chain setup itself. it could stay as it is with just the gears on the BS rotating.

the drive is via a flat on the end of the shaft, I will have a look tomorrow at the idler gears I have in my garage 🙂

im confused. im i right in thinkin this is how you do this mod. remove balancer shafts from engine, then knock rear bearings in 7.5mm.
chop off the gear ends and refit in the block with the chain back on. or is there a part im missing. very very interested in this mod as its cheap and frees up a lot of bhp really.

can this all be done with engine in car. mines a coupe. dont fancy takin engine out just for this. rather build a new bottom end up first then fit that. with all mods done.

I got an email from ZLM yesterday about there BS removal kit they want $263 if I remember ( am at work) anyone know any more about this kit, is it engine out as with Vocky's ( yes I know I should build your old block up but I'm lasy 🙂 )

I have asked for more info from them and am waiting. The GM kit I have found at $380 so far but wondering if much power gain as you are still rotating 2 lumps of metal, even if they are round.

you would need to cut the balancer shafts to remove them, but it's an engine 'in place' kit 😃

Is there a link any info on it? Is it a Vocky-esque thing that stills keep the 2 sprockets rotating, or does it manage to use a shortened chain?

At the current exchange rate that really is quite a good value modification...

it's similar to the idler gears, but they supply collets to block off the rear bearing oil feeds

other than that it's the same

Ahh. Sorry - I've seen that picture before. Does anything stop the collets vibrating out?
So the kit only includes the 2 collets in the middle, and you have to grind down the balancer shafts yourself? Even at £130 that is starting to look a little expensive 🙂

I've booked the week after next off as holiday just before the vx220 national trackday to give this a go following Vockys method (just hope I've got enough time to get the car back together!)

Looking at the VX220 technical manual it looks as though the engine could be dropped enough to remove the balance shafts which I will try first.

My only concerns are hammering the rear bearings 7.5mm further into the block - really don't want to get this wrong! How much is the margin of error for this?
