Steve - How's the progress on the kit coming together? I'm working with an engineering company at the moment who would produce this for you.

it should be able to be done with the engine in situ, but until it's tried we won't know for sure dunno..

Hi,

The kit is stalled at present. I'm working long hours, but also I've lost my balance-chain drive-sprocket! I can't find it anywhere.. I've ordered a new one (back-order) a couple of weeks ago, and I'll finish the kit when I get this.

Jon at Courtneys seems interested in manufacturing the kit.

Vocky, is your method of removing the shafts still a good one in your view?

What happens if you push the bearings too far in? Will they always stay there to block the oil and if they don't block it for some reason, what problems does that cause?

ps. I don't suppose you have a set of idler gears sitting about do you? :p

the guy in the usa has done 35000 miles with no problems, I have an oil pressure gauge and the pressure is better than standard 🙂

the bearings require a serious blow to move a mm, so if you mark up the 'drift' it's very easy to knock them in 7.5mm (well ok it's hard work knocking them in, but you can be very accurate)

I can do an exchange for your 'sawn off ends' with some machined 'idler ends' if you want dunno..

only takes a lathe to clean them up 🙂

Can you do that without me taking mine out first? i.e. do you have some spares?

Would just be easier for me so I could take them out and put the idlers in at the same time as I guess there's a fair amount of stuff I need to remove to get access, like perhaps the engine mount.

I do have a spare pair of balancer shafts 🙂

I will get them modified and you can return the sawn ends once swapped over dunno..

Hmm, I'm not even sure I can do the balancer shafts now without totally removing the engine as I don't think there's enough clearance from the chassis and subframe to get them out...🙁

shame you didnt do them while you had the subframe off 😃

couldnt you drop the engine ? - eg remove all mounts should drop down enough and enough clearance for that water pump bolt ?

I don't think so, with the subframe out of the way you can remove the exhaust side balance shaft, but the intake one is still obstructed by the chassis beam, you'd have to drop the engine a long, long way to get it past there.

Just drop it out paul you'll regret it later if you don't do it know while the car is of the road.
