Basically, if a sub is farting then its f*cked! You have to get the right combination between amp and sub. The RMS value is the wattage to look for, not total power.
Personally I've got 2x 12" JBL's in a double sealed box running from a Fusion 504e amplifier. It absolutely thumps like a bast!! I've had an 8" MTX in a ported box and that was great for the sharp punch. I've also had 1x 10" JBL ported. That was deeper more prolonged bass. I've had 1x 12" Kenwood ported. Deeper bass again. The best setup I've ever had is what i've got now and thats the 2x 12" JBL sealed.
I've got 2 kids, Lauren is 4 and Jack is 19 months and I can still happily get a pram in the boot if required without damaging my subs.
