What headunit have you got? Does it have a dedicated 'Sub Out' lead?

There should be no distortion in the sub really as it should only be handling low mono frequency. There should be NO trace of vocals or any other sound other than bass coming thru' your sub. If there is, there's something wrong.

If that is all as it should be, you may have to look at a proper hide away sub box and a suitable sub to go in it. I think that these type of flush fit boxes need to have everthing right to work properly.

They do. They still need to allow for the correct internal volume which the sub requires to function properly. Otherwise, you'll just keep blowing up sub and amps, as the sub can't take not being sealed, and the amp is working harder than it should have to in order to make the sub move enough so you can hear it.

well ive got a top end sony that does have sub out separate. i think its my sub speaker being cheap thats the problem. when i get a song on thats really bassy then it makes a clap noise. ive read that the kenwood one im getting can be used in a ported or sealed encloser...

i won this. it arrived this morning and to find that the speaker inside is a kenwood kfc w210 with the middle pushed in a hugh bit of rubber on the outside rim ripped off. this speaker will never work in a million years...

Whatever sub that you put in, it has to have a specific minimum volume of air within to be able to work UNLESS it specifically designed for very low volumes of air. The sub movement is dependent on air volume.

You may have to give up this idea and either buy a manufactured sub/box combo or really dig deep and buy a proper compact setup specifically designed for the corner of the boot wall.

Sub boxes are cheap as chips nowadays. You can buy a sub box from about £30 upwards depending on the size of sub you wish to put in it. It may come to a point where you're just throwing money at something which isn't really going to work. Sorry to be negative mate.

CUSTOM BUILD

Well after takin advise of you guys ive built an encloser behind and upgraded my sub....

she kicks now but... its vibratin all the boot and im not getting a clear punch.... i might ditch this idea and put it in a sub box... any you guys got a cheap 10" BOX FOR SALE ????

Thats probably be going to be the best option. You building a sealed enclosure will probably mean the internal volume of air is incorrect, which is why it sounds like shit.

What is the model of the sub, and I'm sure we can find the spec to show the required air volume

As Matt says mate SPL-X is a cheap make and it will keep blowing especially if you don't have it in either a sealed or ported box I don't know what the size of the box should be but I have the same sub as Matt except a 12" and it needs to be in a 1 square foot box it should tell you on the paper work you got when you bought the sub what size the box should be but really mate you need to get it in a box ported or sealed...

Volume of box = 1.00ft3 (28.32 liters) stuffed with loosely packed fiberfill.

This information is for a 10" JBL GT4 Series Sub.

For the 15", a sealed box needs to have an internal box volume of 1.5ft3

I'm just looking for the manuals which shows you how to build one!
