My advice is do what im doing - yes ive had all the excat same problems has you guys......GET RID - Worst car ive ever bought - more COMMON PROBLEMS than any other car i know..... I HATE YOU VAUXHALL.

I must admit I'm beginning to wish I'd held off a while and bought what I originally planned to buy, a V6 :cry:

Having had the car from 3777 miles 5 years ago and driving 70 mile a day, its finally took its toll a few months ago.
Took the plunge and ripped out the pre cat yesterday, a bit more responsive at lowish revs with more power throughout the range. Think next step is remove the cat or make one a 200 cell one up.
Still got the flat spot aided by the traction control but even now its better than it was new.

steve w you have pm relating to timing chain ..........(as a note to others a missfire / lumpy running on idle is one of the signs of a chain problem but all other test need to be carried out before this is to be looked at)

ive had my timing chain replaced and still have lumpy idle - i thought i had it bad untill i sat in my mates V6 - jesus thats lumpy.

does the car shake when you accelerate if so it could be the flywheel,there seems to a problem with these that vauxhall know about.

Thought I'd better update this thread......

The car is now fixed 😃

I've just got back from Benny's about half hour ago after having the timing chain replaced. As he was stripping the engine down, Benny pointed out that the timing was noticeably out on the exhaust cam. So it had jumped a tooth at some point.

Now it's got the new chain kit fitted it's running perfectly again. I've got my bottom end power back and it's ticking over all nice and smooth again woohoo.gif boogie.gif

Glad you are sorted lucky escape.
Mine wasnt as bad as yours but had a niggly feeling the timing was out ie chain stretches plus a slight rattle, so had uncle Benny do mine at short notice.

I have a intermittent lumpy idle. My chain was replaced in December. Wheather the car is hot or cold from the turn of the key it jumps and skips then evens out, then jumps about a bit again then smooths out again and so on. I've got 2 throttle bodies and i've swapped them about and it still jumps. I've replaced the spark plugs this evening and it still jumps. The car drives as normal no matter where it is in the rev range.

Is it best to change the coil pack next?

From listeming to it last night john i wudnt say it was a lumpy idle,more of an intermitant misfire,,,and it definatly sounds electrical..

Bloody cars a pain in the ass when it goes wrong. With it being intermitant, what are the other electric avenues to look at? (Notice that Eddie Grant track in there??)

a nice set of vauxhall triple electrode plugs and blank the egr valve (I can't remember if you already have) 🙂

then if it continues replace the coil pack 🙁

I bought triple electrode plugs tonight and have fitted them. I've just bought a coil pack from ebay too. It was removed from an engine with a snapped chain!

I haven't blanked that yet. Would that really cause that sort of intermittent problem? The engine idles smooth then jumps in succession few a few seconds then evens out then 10 seconds or so later it jumps about again then when its nice and hot its not so noticeable but still there. The rev counter moves between 850rpm down to 800ish momentarely. When i've just pulled up to the driveway gate and get out to undo the gate I notice it too after i've been out in it.

With blanking the EGR, is it really just a case of unbolting it and putting the plate in and then leaving it attached to the engine with the 1 bolt??

that's all that's required to blank the egr 🙂

my vectra always used to hunt on tickover, it was the cams allowing too much air into the engine at low revs, a side affect of long duration cams :roll:

Mine sometimes nearly stalls after a run,tick over hunts up and down like a good un..

Daz (damn fine chap) done an emmissions check on the car last night too and the result was 0.000% on the CO and everthing was well within limit. My spark plugs that I took out this evening were completely normal too.

Could I just fit any piece of plate to the EGR bit? Aluminium? If so I can just get some from work.
Will blanking effect the emmissions?
Would my cams have anything to do with it too or would it just run lumpy all the time if it was cams?
