my astra when i had it had a problem the same as yours, tried a new egr valve and no difference,i fitted a new ignition module and the car drove far better,no low power deficiancy,in fact the car could be driven from low revs without no problems
i would say a new ignition module(coil),i did not have a misfire with the problem and the symptoms sounded like a faulty egr valve
I've tried a second hand ignition module/coil pack thingy and it's no different. I guess it's POSSIBLE that the second hand part has the same problem and both are faulty, but I would have thought it unlikely that they'd display EXACTLY the same symptoms?
Solorider, I notice in this thread you mention a slack timing chain....

No mention of an ignition module in this thread of yours dunno..
Anyway - OK, quick update....
I've replaced the fuel filter. No change in performance at low revs - still seems sluggish. I've cleaned the contacts on the Intake air temp sensor as someone on another forum said they had one with similar problems and when rigged up to a tech2 it showed the intake air temp to be -46!! They cleaned the contacts on the sensor and it cured the problem. So I tried that. No change.
One thing that HAS changed though, is the fuel consumption. When I first discovered the problem, my average MPG had dropped from 31-33 mpg to around 27mpg. Well it's now back to "normal" - On Saturday, straight after a refuel I drove to Salisbury from Shaftesbury (22-23 miles) and managed to hit 40.6mpg on a steady early morning drive. Now I've covered a few more miles it's settled down to moving between 31.7 and 32 - which is where it's pretty much always been ever since I bought the car last July.
To say I'm a tad confused is an understatement notsure.gif
Oh, and one other thing - I had a reply to a thread on another forum that I suppose could be a possibility, but I really don't know. Wonder if you can shed any light on this......
Steve,
I've read that, my 2.2 has nothing like this, smooth pull from low revs to peak.
The only thing I will say, is these 2.2 have a variable air-intake system. I could be wrong but the RPM you describe could be the point where the intake path is switched.
As a total guess I would check that intake path is switching over, and not stuck in the longer path thats used for higher rpm. You would expect an ECU light for this however, but still worth checking. If your on the wrong intake path and ECU does not know, ECU will fule the car wrong that would cause these problems along with poor mpg.
How do I check this then?
