vx220 wheels are normally useless to any other car, but these would fit quite a few vehicles.

I have just finished another small project for my vx220.

The standard heater is quite poor, the fess heater is much better but I wanted more 😃

So I purchased a 300mm x 200mm OEM Peugeot heater core and then spent a while trying to get it to fit :whistle:

Eventually I succeeded .....

The fan from the fess heater goes underneath

The cut out is where the fess fan fits and the resistor pack mounts neatly on the underside

I sealed the edges with industrial pipe tape

The unit bolts together, so quite easy to strip down

all complete and the battery still slides into place.

I have retained all the electrics from the fess heater, but moved the PCB to under the dash and ran just the 12v loom to the Ford heater valve.

The heater hoses are the original vx220 items between the matrix and valve and the other two are from a Peugeot.

The idea is the fan blows through the heater core and then into the channel created by the lid. It then passes back through the heater matrix for a second time and hopefully the preheated air gets even warmer on the second pass

some nice Lotus Europa subframe shims and bolts arrived today :cool:

These are a notorious vx220 corrosion point, so even though I have cleaned mine when it was rebuilt in 2006/7 I will be replacing them and adding some anti-corrosion protection.

Today I replaced the cam cover with another brand new Saab item, I modified it so that I could reconnect the PCV system. Previously I had blocked off the vacuum source between ports 2 and 3. So now I have drilled and tapped the cam cover (above the ports 2 and 3) and fitted a small brass adaptor for a 3mm bore silicone hose, the other end connects to the servo hose, so back to 'sort of' normal z22se 🙂

I then went for a 40 mile drive and can report zero oil from the cam breather filter, previously I used to get a tiny drop of oil from the breather filter. Once I am happy that its stable I will connect the breather to the air filter, like a standard z22se.

I can also report that the new uprated heater is brilliant, roof off at 70mph and it is still nice and toasty, something which previously never happened :rolleyes:

So not content to use a filter for the cam cover breather I purchased a LSJ cam breather hose 🙂

After a two hour drive today I can confirm zero oil has entered the air filter housing 😃

The crappy red lines are the new vacuum hose for the PCV system and the crappy yellow lines the LSJ OEM breather hose (y)
