My vx220 project

Lower dashboard has now been fitted, along with the brand new genuine stalks and brand new OEM steering wheel. I had to re-install the airbag ecu and made a separate loom for it.
I did note that the airbag ecu only gets it's power when the ignition is on - I always thought it had permanent +12v.

now that's why they say if you remove the steering wheel never leave the keys in the ignition

I think they only tell you to remove the battery connection just in case something shorts out and sets the airbag off, certainly if you leave the ignition off for 15 minutes you can remove the airbag without setting the light off.

Same when I removed the seats from the VXR. I just made sure the keys had been removed for a while, but was OK with the battery still connected

So managed another drive today and the engine has now done 200 miles, so gave it a quick 7000 rpm blast :eek:

The performance is amazing 😃

How many miles until it's properly run in then vocky?

It has now done 230 miles and also passed the MOT, even the emissions were okay, so the mapping cannot be too bad 🙂

Currently using up to 7000rpm for short bursts, I believe you should use the engines revs but not load the engine during 'running in'

i have a question
so with the liners were your water jackets bored out ? then just the new liners pushed in ? how do they seal at the bottom of the bore

the block becomes almost empty by the time they have bored it out for the liners, then they add the rubber seals to the new liners before fitting them. They also add some sealant to ensure a good seal so no coolant can reach the oil system.

ahh cool i saw a vid on the tube and the took out the the old liner and water jacket with a boring machine then stepped the top for the new liner but it did not show how it was fitted at the bottom

I have just finished another little project on my vx220 :rolleyes:

The original light switches have a tendency to fail over time, they are based on the facelift vectra B aircon switch and are getting harder to find new. So I hatched a cunning plan :ninja:

Take one brand new VW Golf Mk5 headlight switch and install it into my vx220 :cool:

I also moved the hazard light switch to where the starter button is normally fitted. It was easier to use another Vauxhall switch (with the same wiring), so I purchased a brand new Astra Mk 2 hazard switch and simply connected the wires 'like for like' 🙂

Quite pleased with the finished result 😃

So how do you start it now that you have the hazard switch there?

Nice! Will make it a lot more difficult then if someone was to get hold of the keys and tried to steal it.

The headlight switch looks really good as well. Although, it makes the other controls looks a little "dated" in comparison :bag:
