So a few niggles to deal with, all to do with the switch from the failed Stewart electric pump and the DaviesCraig set up I fitted last year to the old engine
The Stewart pump ran all the time and was used with a remote thermostat housing to control engine temperature.
The DaviesCraig uses an electronic controller to alter the voltage and time the pump runs, this set up required you to remove the thermostat and fit a temperature sender to the thermostat housing (as per the install instructions).
I have had various problems with this set up, mostly the temperature sender not seeing a rise in engine temp fast enough and thus the controller goes into full speed mode.
I finally moved the temp sender to the cylinder head, this allowed the sender to get a better temp signal.
But .............
I noticed that the new heater was not giving very warm air - cold would be a better description
So I went back to my original plan from last year, I added a auxillary electric water pump to the heater circuit. This was very easy to do because I still had the original relay and wiring loom plug from the dead Stewart pump installed, so it was just a case of removing the inline join in the heater return hose and fitting the VW pump, then using the cable from the dead Stewart pump to make the electrical connection easy.
Then I refitted the remote thermostat to the engine outlet hose and went for a test drive 🙂
Lots of lovely heat, even with the roof off 😃
So the engine has now done 120 miles and sits at 87 degrees, outside temperature 7 degrees
