My vx220 project

building an exhaust system from scratch is time consuming :confused:

I'm either waiting for parts or stuck figuring out how it will fit, but I'm getting there ... slowly

this is how far I've got, the manifold is complete but not fully welded, I managed to get the primaries 500mm in length

christ thats a tidy looking system.... how much movement can be expected from the engine? only im curious as ill have similar issues!

That does look really tight. Didn't you modify the "boot" to give clearance already with the weapon r?

If its possible to take the cover out from the dipstick chanel that'l be even easyer. I might have a go at that when i get some time.

Thats going to be one hell of an exhaust. Its looking spot on. Are you tiging it yourself?

there is actually 10mm clearance between the pipes and chassis subframe :thumbup:

the weaponR required the clam boot bulkhead to be cut, this exhaust manifold doesn't require the hole anymore. So it will just be an inspection/access cover.

I have used 2.5 radius bends, the idea is to create a smooth flowing equal length exhaust manifold

All the available z22se exhaust manifolds either have too many bends or use too tight a radius for my liking :silent:

the vx220 engine is held quite tight in the chassis, especially if uprated mounts are fitted

yep there isnt much room in the bays, your motor is gonna be bad ass!

I was thinking the same about the engine mounts. If this was in the Vectra you'd have to weld the engine to the chassis!! pmsl..

if this engine was in a vectra it would jump out and run off - just like yours was trying to do Johnny :lol:

so would it be a wise idea to find some uprated mounts for mine?
only i dont wanna rip me turbo off..... or the clutch master cylinder, or me oil pressure sensor/radiator fan housing so on so forth........

Got all my polyu bushes from LMF, worth doing them all if you are going to do them.

It's not tight bends that are really be problem with primaries it's when you switch the flow direction back on it'sself that the pressure loss really goes up. The main factor in primaries is the length and generally by using tighter bends you can get more length in the same space.

That would because they are made by powerflex and the factory burnt down, so I wouldn't expect to get one any time soon

update:
the exhaust manifold is almost finished, just need to weld on a pair of flanges for the connection to the 'twin cat' section 😃
