Failed Balance Chain Tensioner

Im just worried its something behind or to do with the chains. But if I strip it to that stage I will be to close to go back and I dont want to take the chains off as it looks real easy to get wrong. Iv done 3 timing chains on corsas but there simple. Im just scared

Ok so im gonna take the side casing off

im thinking, axle stand under drivers side, drop oil,
remove drivers wheel and wheel arch liner then loosen crank pulley.

Then support then engine and remove airbox, engine mount then tensioner and remove the side casing? iv left the rocker cover off. Anything else im missing

I think you got it all Dave, you don't need to touch the chains you are only looking to see if there is anything wrong behind the cover . It's the only way to find out what's up

Leave the oil in the engine

I didnt think you could get the side casing off we out taking the oil out first. Or does it all just sit in the sump?

Even with oil drained there is still a certain amount comes out when side casing is removed so that is up to you if you leave it in. it could be very messy if you leave it all in

Al leave the oil in n catch what ever comes out the side. Im gonna leave it for a few hours or till tomorow after work
its abit windy n im putting it off as long as possible cos im scared...

I jacked up the driver's side when I did my chains, never lost a drop but I could see the oil level. Up to you really.

I will jack the drivers side right up and leave the passenger side on the deck.

Im just preparing myself mentally for the job. Gonna get all my tools together n crack on for an hour or so tomorow night after work. Shouldnt take more than an hour to get the cover off(I hope anyway) I really dont want to do it, I dont know why im so scared, iv rebuilt bike engines and gear boxes and timing chains on corsa and cam belts on 8valves. Clutches on all sorts,
If it wasnt mine I think I wouldnt be so scared hahaha.

When you changed the oil did you use engine flush? and what oil did you use?

No engine flush(I had a bad experience)

But used castrol gtx (10w40 I think)

But it had started before I did the oil change(thats what forced me to do the oil change).

so just got car in the air and got the wheel and arch liner out, tried to get crank pulley off(i think i need a tool)

your not ment to turn the engine backwards as it lets the chain slack
you could put a large screwdriver in the pulley so it locks on the timing cover then undo the bolt or borrow an impact gun and zap it off

So my video means nothing? I dont know if thats good news or bad.

I will need to drop the engine off the mounting to get to the crank bolt with the air gun.

So Im still no closer to finding the fault (sad face).
Where you bin anyway carl? You have been rather quiet on here the last few days.

i,d say you still need to get the cover off as the guys have already said then check the tensioners are ok

i had a working weekend 2 valets and changing swirl flaps on z22yh

I will get the cover off tomorrow night now,

Gonna have to drag the compressor down out the garage for the air gun to get the crank pulley off. Owt else I need to know about?.

Im hopeing when I get the cover off it will just be staring me in the face.

Well the weathers stopping me tonight.

Its really windy and rainy here, but im off work tomorow so hopefully the weather will be better and should be able to get to the chains n hopefully find the fault.
