Failed Balance Chain Tensioner

I also thought a broken rail on the balance chain area , but if everything in that area is brand new then you would not think it was possible
A couple of years back when i done new chain i never done the balance chain and when i started car up there was a horrible grinding sound pretty similar to what is in your video. When i took chain cover off again i could see the guide on the balance chain was broken up

I hope nothing broke up. Its only done around 3000 miles n iv just done the oil n filter again. So id loose my new oil

I wonder what warrenty is on the kits?
N labour is that guarrented?

And wouldnt a broken guide rail be noisy all the time? It seams to go away after a few minutes.

Tbh dave its all guess work till u can open it up and have look in side.

Could be anything really Dave we are all just guessing , you never know with cars .

Last night my blanking plug on the inlet manifold popped out . Luckily for me i was at the shop round the corner and it never happened on my usual 100 mile a day journey on the motorway. A potential nightmare scenario.
The blanking plug has been sitting tightly in place for well over a year , came out the shop started the car and pop

just got rocker cover off and had a look. everything looks fine as far as i can see. i got the missis to turn it over wile i filmed and tried to use the torch at the same time

the knocking you can hear is the rocker cover sat on the slam panel.

the only thing i can think of is the water pump, doesnt that run off the balancing chain?

all the guides look fine, no obvious damage.

Does it still start up? if it does there should be flying oil everywhere which would point to oil pump if that is not happening i think

I havnt tried to start it with the cover off.

It will start if I tried but I didnt want oil every where.

Just sit cover over the top and try ,it is one to eliminate from list of possibilites, also check the exhaust manifold shield if it is loose

Ok. So just sit it over the top but look for oil flying over the top of the chain?

Yes that's it , as though you are putting it back on , hold it slightly above
I would say either oil pump water, pump or one of the guide rails is broken so you will next need to take side cover off if all looks ok at the top

Well I havent done anything else with the vectra but I cant really find anything on google about the oil pump or water pump clicking/ticking. or even find a new oil pump.

im not looking forward to this at all.

Have u took the side cover off yet bud? And is the chain ok when u had the cover off?

Got rocker cover off. But dint want to take side cover off cos iv only just done an oil change about 2 weeks ago.

But looks like thats what im gonna have to do tomorow.

Dave i know the ball ach your going through with trying to find whats up. I kept getting a random misfire when i was at crusing speed, it would only last couple of seconds and has only happened a handful of times since June. Changed the cheap stuff first plugs, fuel filter etc, no joy so it had to bite the bullet and last week i bought a brand new coil pack and its sorted it. But the supercharger pot took a £200+ hit

Drain the oil into a container and re use it, without taking that side cover off and checking everything it's just gonna be a guessing game unfortuneatly
