went the the local shop for local people to get some 30mm core plugs but they only have imperial sizes and non fitted
found a m20 cap head bolt thats a right tight fit so this will do 🙂

nut to pull it in and stop it moving 🙂

no this was a z22se water pump with the ceramic impeller the saab pump i've kept intact just in case 🙂

bolt was covered in hydraulic thread lock then pulled in with great effort lol

looks good 🙂

just needs a big nut on now

had a closer look at that front hole @[deleted] is not open to an oil way

i decided to block the balancer tensioner oil way with a plate

suits me 🙂

and then fitted the chain

continued to put the block together
water pump link tube from the lnf and the the z22se thermostat housing

the thermostat cap from the lnf fits the z22se housing will make life easier plumbing in the oil cooler 🙂
need to go and buy a m8 recoil kit the front bolt on the oil cooler stripped out before it hit 21nm :S

tops back on to planning to change the coil pack some will do that later on 🙂

Serious question - what grade engine oil are you going to use ?

Why did you put the balance chain tensioner back on if your not using it? Thats like 5g weight reduction if you left it off.

maybe GM don't drill in so deep these days, the only time I checked was many years ago on a z22se block and I have never bothered looking since :whistle:

well the cap suggests 5/30 mobil 1 i will have to splash out and try it 🙂 lol

the plate alone will not keep the oil in but with the tensioner ther its down solid
i do plan to remove that tensioner as its new and seen no miles i will be fitting an old one from the box of them i have
as for the 5gramms ive got 90kg of audio in the boot im not sure 5 grams is enough to worry me 🙂 i guess i could cut one inch off the 0 gauge power cable and reduce the weight by 10 grams 🙂

well at 1st before you posted about it i had blown all of them with the airline and that one shot back the other blew into the block so thats why i said 2 originally but when you said i double checked it just in case 🙂
@[deleted] will the seal alone be ok for the thermostat cap or would it be better to bastardise an old thermostat to fit the gap

I personally think Mobil 1 5w30 is a very good oil but a bit on the pricey side.

I've used it once and the rest of the time GM fully synthetic 5w30 and you saw how clean my engine was 🙂

Fully synthetic oils hold their molecular structure longer and don't break down as quickly as mineral based oils thus they keep their cleaning properties longer too.

next up tapping the new hole

clean and straight

recoil going in

its in and mounted just below the surface

last step snap the pin with the magnet provided

the extra bit removed

and the bolt in with 21nm 🙂

i love helicoils so simple yet so effective 🙂

Iv read loads about helicoils but never seen how its done. Now I have.

Helicoils are great for repairing damaged threads. I've done a few and seen more than a few done.

I use Recoil kits, they are great. Get a M6 set as well - then you can repair stripped cam cap bolt threads too :rolleyes:

already have the m6 kit for doing the top guide bolt repair 🙂

but i did use them on the rocker cover when i use to shorter bolts and they pulled out lol

I was told NGK dint do iridium for z22se, I know yours int z22se but would be the same plugs wouldnt they? If so whats the code? I love iridiums, iv allways ran them in bikes n quads.

My car came with Iridiums in when I bought it so they must sell them, I'll check the numbers in them tomorrow
