just got off the phone with Trevor @ Andrews-precision
the crank is a keeper he measured it up and its all well within spec 🙂 best £20 spent lol

im just in the process of getting a TTV flywheel so it can be balanced to the crank

<u>immediate shopping list</u>
lightened flywheel (on its way)
clutch and cover plate (standard clutch kit)
rods+pistons imported (not required for crank balancing)

ive had a 2nd pair of z22se cams in my room for a while now so went to work cleaned up the inlet cam and fitted it to the saab head

clamped in and lubed up

still not sure what the fuss is about with knife edging the crank
hell just look how light the a20nft is 🙂 and its 400hp capable out the box 🙂

Awesome stuff Carl 🙂.

I'm assuming the knife edged crank is robust, even at the increased 'spin up' rate, not to suffer leading edge damage? I know the oil will be kept clean and debris free but intrigued to whether there would be the potential for damage and what could be done to overcome it.

no idea yet Dave its not back from the machine shop i need to take a clutch and a flywheel down to him so he can balance it up right
the z22se crank is cast so pretty tough the z20net crank is forged and a bit stronger but then the strength of a crank is only as thick as the material between the journals
as shown here and if it were to crack thats where it would go 🙂

tbf i think once i get the crank back there wont be lot done to it he told me its more to help balancing the hole unit including the pulley and flywheel

I think it depends how much you remove, plus standard rods were pretty much the downfall of the mad docs engines with the knife edged cranks.

well with the z22se crank coming in at the heaviest i dont think there will be as much removed as the z20nft crank on my crank the only other aspect then would be is cast vs forged
Paul showed me the pics on FB and it was rod failure that caused the damage in his knife edged build
with forged rods and pistons that won't be a problem in this build 🙂

went to the local farm supplies shop yesterday and bought some oil for the gearbox while there i picked up a 3/4" core plug and a 75l really useful box to keep the engine parts in
swapped out the plug i had made at work for the core plug
fits sweat

@[deleted] what clutch plate would be suitable for 300+hp ?

I received another one of those today too 🙂

The courtenay uprated clutch should be fine, which is a Saab clutch, but not sure which car it's from.

there a pretty good price shipped i was surprised
i was shocked when i call about a clutch and was told £700 :confused: hence asking
need a clutch and sprung plate for £200ish that will handle 300+ someone said clet ?

im using a helix clutch kit. ment to be good for around 300bhp, cost around £300 but that was 3/4 years ago.

one more little job done
coil pack the lugs were hit with an old kitchen knife each side till the lugs dropped off 🙂

cover plate marked and drilled

after some cutting and de-burring and filing

good fit!

looks like it was made in the factory that cover! (y)
got the clutch kit through LMF Vauxhall. took a while to arrive though.

yeah that's who i called they quoted me £700 🙂 and wanted me to send my new flywheel down to them
the problem is the z22se is 150hp there clutchs list a 40% increase in power im already over 50% increase so they were trying to make me a twin plate clutch the did say that it would normally cost £1400

think im just going to go with the stage 3 clutch from them

£700 is to much lol i will just get the stage 3 paddle clutch for £300 ish
