okay guys, so i have all the new oils in and i have bled the clutch.. Just having a little problem atm which im alittle confused with.
every i connect the battery the throttle body moves and i hear a ticking noise... this defiantly doesn't seem normal to me and im
worried i may be doing damage to the electronics. the only thing i didnt have connected was the coil pack. could i have connected a plug
into the wrong spot? i dont want to connect the battery again to limit any damage incase i have done something wrong.

so im pretty annoyed at the moment. was hoping to have the engine running today. but if anyone has any suggestions please comment.

is the battery low it may need charging
im sure in the past ive had the ticking T/B when the battery was flat
do you have a multimeter you can check the voltage with ?

Keys out of ignition when you connect the battery?

yep the keys are out, and the battery is giving 12.5v
to me it seems like a short somewhere.. i will put the battery on charge overnight
and check everything again...

mine uesd to do it when i tryed to start the car and the battery went flat while trying to start
if its the same sort of thing then i might be worth checking over all the leads to the battery, alternator,earth straps, etc
unless some one else has any ideas what it could be

Thanks for the help mate, i will give it another go tomorrow. im sure its just a simple problem of a miss-matched wire somewhere..

What happened with me was i was too keen to get engine running (after lifting engine out ) and missed a couple of earth wires, had them on the wrong place etc .the big red wire that went to the starter motor from the battery i forgot to put it on before i attached inlet manifold and couldn't see it from up top got distracted by doing something else forgot and never went back to that. so when i went to start the car battery was connected all the dashboard lights were on without the key being in. when i turned key there was nothing . the majority of the plugs can only go in one place judging by length and direction they are going. so what tripped me up was earth wires and other wires with a ring on them where you can be confused as to where they might go

mine seems to be moving the throttle body and making the ticking noise when i connect the battery, everything else should be off. no keys in the ignition, lights off, stereo off... so im alittle confused. im going to check the connections and see if any water may have got in them...

You should turn the key to illuminate dash lights without starting car it may not be a problem like you think just being over cautious it needs a little power to the throttle body first for the start up

well i have checked everything and as soon as i connect the battery the throttle body moves and ticks/buzzes... i honestly dont know what it could be??

maybe you have a relay stuck on? or the ignition switch has stuck on? ecu is getting power from some where?

i figured out what happened, seems like i missed on of the earth leads that connect to the battery terminal!!! feeling like an idiot right now haha.

so the engine now turns over but doesnt want to start, it backfired once =( so i think i will take another look tomorrow. im pretty sure i got the timing marks spot on when i put the engine back together so i doubt its a timing issue....

At least you are making some progress and found the missing connection.

Just an update, still havent been able to get it started. i have spark and fuel, i will check compression and timing this weekend after work.

just a question, is it possible to have the timing out when using the marks on the chain? i was talking to my dad lastnight and he suggested that i got it 180 degrees out so it fires just after the exhaust stroke. so does anyone have any suggestions before i take the timing chain cover off and try to re-align the camshafts again?

It is very hard to have the timing out when using the links on the chain and the marks on the sprocket unless you never had No.1 piston at tdc
Did you remove the camshafts when you done the engine work

yes the whole engine was taken apart. and i had it at TDC when i aligned the timing chain with the marks. but im going to double check it. when i hand cranked the engine to check it all seemed fine so i dont know.

Are you sure all pipes etc are connected correctly on my engine the egr to exhaust inlet pipe was not seated properly and this meant when the car started it would not rev up also check coil pack they are all sparking this could cause a misfire

okay i will check the coilpack aswell. im pretty sure the egr is all sealed up - i have a plate there anyways with a cheater but i will check just incase.
