I don't know much about it really only that its like everything else, you get what you pay for!
I took my time choosing the old kit that im using and its served me well. it been used for around 150k miles in 3 cars and one was rolled (2 complete rolls)
still work ok but not as good as the new kit.
been looking around for a while now as I want it to take up less space and weight but deliver more out put.
very impressed with the JL set ups ive seen recently and this lot comes in under the total budget...... just!

more parts have arrived during the week and ECU is due back Monday 🙂
found a small air to oil cooler due to limited space but as it cools well enough with out a cooler at the moment it can only help.:cat:

spent today stripping and building up the new F23 gearbox, gone for a 3.55:1 final drive ratio from a corsa 1.7dti as im not after rapid acceleration but a good cruise speed so this will be idle as most z20let corsa's run the astra F23 with 3.65:1 ratio. trouble is bell housing doesn't match the z22se so ive used the old one from the Vectra B box that's no good to me. had to strip the box down to fit the quaife dif anyway.
just need to source a new seal cap and deflector as they got damaged on disassembly. come apart easy when you know how! :rolleyes:
all still going to plan for engine swap next weekend if I get the new seal.

got a box of bits from a vetra b f23 if anybody needs any thing let me know or they will be going for scrap.

the old engine is out and stripped all the parts off ready to go on new engine. just about to load some photo's of progress.
girlfriend stayed over last night and had to go shopping today spending loads of money. . . . . . . . . . . . but that was for the corsa, my true love! 🙂

started the day by stripping all the parts of the front of the car and engine, was good to see the Courtenay phenolic gasket hasn't failed like other peoples seem to and that the pcv is working ok 🙂
buy the end of the day the engine was out and stripped ready for reassembly tomorrow.
popped out to get the new sound system ordered/paid for and picked up new power wire kit along with some new interior trim parts which I will post photo's of once fitted.

that 3rd pic of the gasket looks like its well on its way to clenching up and pulling in on the middle 2 at the bottom and the top of each end 🙂

i have to say you got the old engine out quick 🙂

nope, gasket still stuck fast all round the ports. only place its lifted is where there's no alloy to seal against 🙂
must be the m8 bolt/studs :confused:
I do have 2x metal B207R gaskets to go on today though.🙂
didn't come out as quick as I was hoping, traffic was terrible on shopping trip so that took 3 hours out of the day 🙁
I'm nearly as quick on these jobs as you carl.

had a lay in today because im lazy 🙂
didn't get on very well, had to go fetch tools twice, (tool box is 3/4mile away) oil cooler take off plate didn't line up with bolt holes so had to drill and tap a new hole, but all good in the end, new track rods and ends also fitted while sub frame was out.
another day and she should be running again, need to work out ECU to body wiring for a vx220 and make mine the same, fit new throttle pedal, rads x3, bumper, wiring, down pipe. did get new 2.8 pulley on and new belt fitted with a bit of swapping and adjusting.

well she's alive!
had to work Saturday all day and go shopping today for building supplies plus mdf for the sub box and boot build but had enough time to rewire/fit throttle pedal, fix diagnostic socket (clip broke and falls in when connecting:mad🙂, fitted new hydro dipped interior trim parts, refitted down pipe, added fluids, cleaned brake disc's along with carriers and pads, rewired ECU plug to suit vx220 from Vectra B, ran up and tested, 1 fault code which ive had since putting the z22se into the car, P1516. think it may be a poor connection at body front to body rear plug or the soldered joint I made? also got a small coolant weep from heater hose but it was to hot to fix and to dark, my head light ran out of battery 🙁
does sound great, really smooth and revs out much faster than before. test drive next weekend 🙂

finished her off today, new heater hose, bleed clutch, shortend ECU to body loom and removed all now unused wires. then out for a test drive, 😃
70 mph is 2600rpm now in 5th before it was 3200rpm.
running ok sounds so much different now. need to get it run in then on dyno for final mapping. 🙂

took plugs out today to see how she's running, all a nice clean light brown colour. torqued them back in to 37lbft just need to clock up a few miles now. 🙂

37lbft for the spark plugs is that correct?
I hope not it should be 15lbft max. The head is very weak around the plugs with many faliures from mechanics over tightening them.

Agree, although according to Haynes 25Nm / 18lbf ft

21nm for z22se and 24nm for z20net
the taper seat on the z22se is what cracks the head into the water jacket hence why its only 21 🙂
