KevinH I was just quoting what my Haynes manual says, because everywhere else I have read say 20Nm. π I wonder what the official Vx workshop manual says ? Carl you have TIS - is it listed in there ?

corsaZ22se Ha Ha, was only kidding, Vauxhall spec is 37nm and 18lbft according to the copy of tis I have. really do you think I would over torque the plugs? :p

corsaZ22se it is an old copy of tis, Haynes manuals give the same figure for Vectra B. 18lbft. 20nm is hand tight with just a 3/8" extension bar in socket. I fit them with socket and extension then torque up but they only turn a few degrees with torque wrench to 37nm/18lbft. only do them cold too. never on a warm engine like most garages/dealers would be doing on service.
evocarlos best way to gauge it is turn them in till stop then 1/4 turn π and as you say cold the plugs ive just bought that are a step colder even have this printed on the box which is nice but i do use copper slip on the threads as i hate how steel locks in to alloy sometimes
evocarlos Dave Gilbert said: Iv never put copper slip on a spark plug. I will in future. Just a small amount? yeah just a wipe in the thread so they dont squeak on the way out π
KevinH or I've used Permatex 81343 (a mixture of aluminium, copper and graphite) previously. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Permatex-Inc-1oz-Antiseize-Lubricant/dp/B0002UEOLO (out of stock :ROFLMAOπ
corsaZ22se never used copper slip or alike on this engine but have done with cast iron heads. just a small dab though. cars booked for map tweaking on 24th march π time to sort new boot build now before fast show on 22nd march.:eek::unsure:
OAKMERE I think graphite based is better than copper slip as it can react with aluminium. Thought most recommend not to use an anti-seize as it can cause you to over torque the plugs which is not good in this engine. Saab heads are different and use different plugs.
corsaZ22se time for an update, been busy with work and the car not had time to upload the photo's and sort them. decided the sound system was to old and needed replacing so after searching around, listening to install's visiting shops I went for a JL sey up, 1x 1200/1 hd amp 1x 600/4 hd amp 2x w12 v6 d4 subs 1 set of c5 component speakers. had to build a new box and amp rack. removed second battery and fitted 0 gauge power wire from front to back. also swapped silver seat belts for black ones while trim was out. sounds great, had it set up by local dealer so levels are all safe. not trimed the box yet as ran out of time before the fast show. not bad for 2 days work though, glad I never had a puncture before as it took 3.5 hours to remove old box!
corsaZ22se then came a trip up to Courtenay sport for mapping, set of around 4am, stopped at little chef for second breakfast at 7am then up to Courtenay for a day on the dyno. end result was 277bhp and 241blft. with advise that I need to dial the cams in and get a 3" manifold back exhaust but other than that she's in great shape, fuelling is spot on, managed 35mpg on way home! π so good to finally be able to open the throttle to the max now! diff and new final drive ratio have worked to help get the power down now. so all in all im happy. been talking to cobra sport about a custom made 3" system and price looks good. π while I was at Courtenay's I looked through the mags, and second one was the issues of tv with my old corsa b in it π
corsaZ22se thank you, I keep finding a reason to go for a drive in it now. popped to atm just now, 20mins walk took me over an hour in the corsa, she's so slow! π
