sounds like your timing is out hence lumpy idle

personally i wouldn't drive the car until u sorted it out m8

the PSI compression results are the same as mine m8

and drop the induction kit otherwise u be forking out for a new air flow meter as well

so the link counting method is out then lol unless i have missed a link?? you can't see them to well in the pics the last 1or 2 aren't in any of the pics??

it's probably the crank which has jumped a tooth, the cams are not in the correct position if the crank is aligned

The results of the wet compression tests are in.

pleae note engine was run to temp then was cooled for 45 mins as i had to pic kids up ( i know i should not drive lol) ne way results are.

cylinder 1. no oil, pressure is 9.5bar adding some oil about 3 squirts 10bar
cylinder 2. no oil, pressure is 7.5bar adding some oil about 3 squirts 9 and 1 quarter bar
cylinder 3. no oil, pressure is 8.0bar adding some oil about 3 squirts 8 and a half bar
cylinder 4. no oil, pressure is 8 and 1 quater bar adding some oil about 3 squirts 8 and 3 quater bar.

compression had drop on sum chamber and raised in other from first reading.

so there is over 14 PSI difference in cylinder 1 since you last did a test ?

if i am not mistaken there should not be more than a 20ish PSi across the range [1.5 BAR] , so they are within tolerance

even I can see your timing is out and I have never changed the chain before on a 2.2, what is confusing me is that your driving the car still with the possibility of the timing completely out thus damaging the engine

forget rings mate, you gonna bend a valve

if it is timing that everyone thinks including the expert [ vocky]then it is worth sorting that out asap considering it will be the cheapest option atm, any garage will charge you more than a second hand engine to replace the rings

you only suppose to do a wet test when you have serious compression loss in one cylinder

we talking 3 or 4 bar pressure compared to the rest ast 8 - 9 bar

i had a calibra x20xev that run cylinder 1 at 3 bar and the rest at 9 bar and the knocking was tremendous

got a replacement engine for free, shame the z22se is not as cheap lol

Well am back after a hard days work.

Got the old chain off and the new chain on.

well what a game and still not correct fucking car arrghh

put timing chain on timed all marks up looked sexy though yus here we go put all the guides on and the tensionor on chain is tight yes.

turned it buy hand nothing catching spot on tried to time it up again the coloured links vanished. would not match up at all after turning the engine round by hand.

so chain off again timed up back on rotate engine colour links dont match up to timing marks again. engine looks timed up correct but links not matching

so again and again and again till i got to the point were am like lets put it back together and hope for the best it aint catching. so put it all back together (had no choice was in a m8 garage.) not remembing it never catched we started it up oh yes it sounds sweet as a nut lovley. so drive it seems ok bit of power loss still though nothing got it back to garage did compresstion test. STILL NOT FUCKING CHANGE mebe gained a bar doing a full days work and thats about it still as lumpy as shit.

wtf is wrong with my engine.

1 more thing to point out there is a smell like and oily petrol smell very strong.

you will find that when you have timed engine up with the coloured links on the sprockets etc that as soon as you turn the engine over the coloured links wont line up again for a lot of revolotions not sure how many. sure vocky will no tho.so thats quite normal

it's possible that when the chain jumped a tooth the valves hit the piston, this would cause low compression :thumbdown:

your only option is to strip the engine and see whats wrong internally 🙁

Thats a shame it didn't solve the problem but at least when you get it all sorted you'l have a brand new chain kit on it.

am just gonna get a new head with valves all ok etc..etc.. swap head over and try that then go from there.
