the z20net ecu uses canbus so you may have a problem with the wiring side of things, I always wondered whether TECH2 could remove the canbus side of things but never got that far

Wasn't full CANBUS only introduced in 2005+ models on the Vectra C? My Dad's old 54 plate ran half CAN, but my 2005 had full.

The only time it gets "bus" added on is when its refered to outside the automotive design world. Inside (and correctly) its always called CAN.

As you can see 'Controller Area Network Bus' just reads stupidly, and badly, and wrongly lol

We use a similar terminology for a product at work. We allow customers to connect to us via SSL for card auths.

It's called Secure SSL

I maged to get a wiring diagram for the ecu wiring etc for the vec c,however ,autodata has no info on the astra z22se engines vehicles...but as vocky said above it is probably goin to be can on the vec....and the existing wiring in the astra wont be compatable,

1 work around is goin standalone...

There's not much difference TBH mate, there's only a couple of things not full like the HU. The engine loom will be the same. There's still something like 22 different ECU's (moduals) that need to communicate on the half Can Bus.

is there any chance you can send me the diagram?
i have the z20net side of the loom as well so is it worth gutting the origional car loom and put that one in instead or will this also be a problem?
i think my mate would be happier going stand alone too that said.

Just out of interest did the Net have balancer shafts the same as the SE? If so did you delete them while the lump was out? It'll be interesting to see what you get out of it if you go stand alone, the NET guys on the Vectra C site seem to be getting around the 220bhp mark with a BSR map on the stock ECU. Unfortunately were very limited in what can be done to the engine in the Vec C due to the can bus. With you being free of all that there's some great potential. From what I understand the insignia 2.0T lump is going to be based on the NET but again with just a map quotes are about the 320 mark. showo..

hell thats impresive!
i don't know what im doing at the moment everythings a bit up in the air,
i would like to try and get the engine running as it is,
for the sakes of time and expenses are spiraling rapidly what with exhaust parts and stuff like that,

what i would like to know is with the z20net side of the loom, can i wire that to the car and then remove the origional wiring to the car (so long as i dont have to press hazard light buttons to open the windows! :lol: ) or is what your saying is that the electronics will never be compatible?

it would have been nice to think that with some patience a chair and lots of chin stroking maybe most of it could be dealt with this weekend,
however if i don't have a hope in hell i spose i need to seriously look into stand alones.

A network IS a bus (just an external one). Writing "network bus" is like writing "network network" or "bus bus" :wtf:

right ive had a read up on CAN,
is what we are saying essentialy that various components may never be able to communicate with the ecu even when wired in?

basically GM in their wisdom decided to code all the ecu's together, probably to stop stolen cars getting 'rung'

so I was planning on getting them removed with tech2, I don't know if thats possible or not, I also thought about fitting the other ecu's just to keep the engine ecu happy :thumbup:

but worst case is a standalone ecu and mapping, should be about a grand :crazy:

hmm that is what i thought,
is there at least a chance we can get away with trying the origional engine to car loom?
i suppose getting all the ecu's cant be all that tricky,
my mates done quite a few megasquirt installs now so im starting to lean that way, but this all hinders progress because we cant put it back together without knowing where we go! notsure.gif
what do you do with the megasquirt? is it a case of re-attaching the car loom and ripping the engine loom out?

I wouldn't be too worried mate. The Can system that the engine comes from is totally alien to your astra. When we indicate in the vectra the ECU (CIM) behind the steering wheel tells the boot modual to flash the indicator, so if you take one modual out of the circuit it all fails. A sensor is a sensor, in the C it tells a modual some information then that gets passed on to another and so on. With yours it should just work as normal but with a different engine ECU. You wont need to get involved in the whole CAN issue as its not needed for your car. This is my very basic understanding of how it works in my car. Benny messes with this stuff all day so he should be able to give you definitive answers.

otherwise megasquirt requires the sensors connecting to the ecu, you should be able to modify the loom to suit, but you will need a manual throttle, just use a standard astra cable throttle assembly and a throttle body from a bmw or they do a nice 70mm cable operated tb on ebay for around £125

Slightly off topic, but how does it work on the Astra then fitting the Z20LEH into the MK4, as the VXR runs CAN??
