Superchargers create huge temperatures. Its a byproduct of forced induction.
The majority of SC conversions are carried out on the vx220. The air intake filters are located at the inlet panels on the side of the car. The vx220 also has wire mesh in the bonnet/hood to let the heat out.
The Astra of Mark Watts seems to have better ventilation at the filter. Paul Pounds #1 Vectra has his filter at the bottom of the engine behind the rad. As mentioned above, mine is inline with the top of the engine thus sat in immediate heat.
Going back last year, i'd only had the conversion done 4 weeks and the motorsport gel battery that I had fitted had been cooked and split due to the extreme temperature next to the engine. I had to replace it with an military spec metal jacket gel battery which was rated upto 80`C. I've since also fitted a polished S/S heat shield thats lined with a plumbers heat resistant matt.
