Fuel niggle??

Big thanks to Daz this morning. thumbup

Popped over the bridge for Daz to change my injectors this morning. Cup of tea first and we were away. Fearless Daz removed all the required items out the way and got the fuel rail out with no problems. A few of the vacuum pipe rubbers were perished so he changed those for me. Old injectors out and newish ones back in. Cleaned up the entrance ports and added a smear of grease to help the injectors back in.

Everything connected back up and flicked the key. Still the same! Bugger!!

But what we did find was that if you turn off the engine, switch the ignition back on and wait for 10 seconds, the car starts okay without spluttering?

Not really sure what this is all about? I had a chat with a few of the chaps from VVOC at Castle Combe this afternoon and they were thinking that it might be something to do with the fuel pump? I've heard of problems with the vx220 pumps whilst running SC but not with the Vectra.

Looks like i'll just have to live with it for now. Thanks again mate.

No problem at all john....Like i said when u were here ,mine used to do the same..

it takes about 2 or 3 seconds for the lines to prime

only way to check is get a gauge on the fuel rail and monitor it from ignition on to cranking it over

For some reason the pumps on the vx seem to have gone poor with age only 5- 6 years that is!! would suggest an in line pump/swirl pot setup IMHO

Made a Sticky as this is an ongoing investigation.

Righty then!!! My assignment for this weekend is as follows............

Jon got back to me this afternoon with a suggestion and a possible fault that may have occured. I have to take the Y-tail out from the main fuel rail and replace with a straight joiner. This removes the boost fuel supply to the boost injectors. Take the car out for a run without bringing the car onto boost. Drive carefully for about 20 miles and then stop the car. Wait 5/10 minutes and then switch the car on as normal. See what the result is. If the car starts fine then that could indicate an issue with the stand alone boost control. Repeat for the return journey.

If the car still coughs and splutters, Jon has had a thought that as already mentioned by Nick that its possible that the fuel pump is starting to pack up? I also spoke to Jason Creeden, this months zlet Vectra, (Pengoo) from VVOC whilst at Castle Combe last weekend and he thought exactly the same.

I'll report back after the weekend is over.

UPDATE!

I bought myself a straight pipe joiner and disconnected the fuel line to the boost injectors and just reconnected the fuel pipe to the standard fuel rail. I've been running for 2 days and the stuttering on start up is still there! Poo!

Its not a very nice feeling driving without any boost. Its suprising just how little throttle is needed to make boost. As soon as it comes off of vacuum the engine just dies. Its no good trying to drive with someone pushing you along the road in a hurry. They get a flustered for some reason!

Well, another week on and the problem is no better nor no worse than when the boost fuel pipe was connected so i've put it all back as it was now. I also found tonight that when I accelerate heavily from a standing start in 1st gear that the engine is spluttering and popping up around 5500/6000rpm.

I'm done with this now. Looks like i'll be booking the car in for Jon and the team to give the car a going over. Something is really not right at the moment.

I called Jon this morning and he's given me another lifeline. He's sending me down a new MAP sensor to try out. If this works then all well and good. After this he's going to book me in for further inspection.

MAP sensor arrived today. Plugged in, started up, ran to temp, turned off, waited 5 minutes, turned the key, engine cranked over and over then spluttered into life. No change. Time for a road trip!

have you changed the fuel pump relay, it might be sticking and running on for a second after the engine stops dunno..

those purple relays are easy to get from the breakers :thumbup:

I spoke to the Wise man at Courtenay today and the car is booked in on Friday morning for an inspection. Looking forward to seeing them all again. Hope Jon and the chaps can get to the bottom of my problem. If not, the car will have to stay and I might just have the pleasure of driving home the fabled Silver Vectra ST200 of my good man Timmee!

I think that it just happens to be taxed at the moment. Knowing my luck, it'll need taxing whilst i've got it! lol!
