The 2.0 Rover lump can suffer from a slight oil leak from the head gasket, which drips onto the exhaust downpipe, theres a o ring in the head gasket for an oilway @ the front that fails, but you can use a freelander gasket set which has an improved o ring.
IIRC a de-cat pipe with the exhaust standard system and a induction kit is worth around 18bhp
