Review of Vockys car?

Most threads seem to point towards Vockys car at some point, the holy grail of Z22SE?

I have seen bits n bobs all over the site but is there a definative thread all about your car, have you done a write up or review? How it drives, how it compares to standard, how each mod benefits, how fast it feels, how fast it is, does it get driven much or always in bits?

Done a search for Vocky AND review, nothing.

Ah yes thats the thread that got me started a few weeks back but it just comes to an end leaving you wanting more!

Saving it for the mag I suppose.

full feature will be in Total Vauxhall in the next few months :)

But I have posted about every mod done on this site, it's just they are a bit scattered about

so a quick summary,

it drives just like a normal z22se  except it has way more power showo..

Tickover is smooth although I fitted two uprated engine mounts which causes some vibration through the chassis (the same as any vx220 which has them fitted), exhaust is still too quiet for my liking but it does 'pop' on over-run since the backbox was changed to 2.5"

since fitting the six speed box, with astra vxr internals, accelleration is rapid. Not quite as quick as NickB's awesome VX220sc, but not far off now dunno..

my vx220 was not driven much last year, about 800 miles, but that was due to the major rebuild, various upgrades, the poor weather and it spent a month at TMS for mapping and the geo.

I'm hoping to use all the 3000 miles allowed by my insurance this year, so bring on the sunny weather :D

the mods;

difficult to say which mod is best, but from memory these are the best mods and why.....

increase in power and torque
4-2-1 exhaust manifold
ported head, +1mm valves and piper cams
2.4 inlet manifold
357cc injectors and remap

engine response
remove balancer shafts
lightened flywheel
honda clutch plate (for 6 speed box)
lightened alternator pulley - to be fitted
underdrive crank pulley - to be fitted

mods which brought it all together - (probably wouldn't do much on their own)

68mm tb
3" air intake system
turning tb 90 degrees to open with the flow
porting the 2.4 inlet manifold
porting the 68mm tb
removing egr system
steel rods
adjustable fuel pressure regulator - to be fitted

I could have gone sc, but I wanted na power 8)

cost breakdown is something like this, not very accurate but a guide;

restoration = £3500 includes paintwork, spoilers, wheel refurb, tyres etc
6 speed box = £1500
tuning and other stuff = £3000 includes gauges, exhaust, flywheel etc

it's quite surprising how it soon adds up
