Gearbox replacement (VX220)

Well, after just over 60k, my VX220's gearbox has fallen apart dunno.. Third has just disappeared and been replaced with a horrific graunching sound. I figure its one of the selector forks, but looking at the prices from vaux for the field remedy replacement gear I don't fancy my chances at fixing it cheaply...

So... Since most of the rear of my car is currently sitting in my conservatory, I figured I might make the most of it and fit the 6 speed vectra C 2.2 box instead. Has anyone tried this? Does anyone know if it will fit? (It'll prob fit the engine, but is the pax side engine mount + cable operated bit the same?)

Does anyone have one lying about? Or even a Vectra B/vx220 one as I really want to get back on the road in this weather ASAP :D I haven't posted my 20 posts to get on the classified's section yet - i'm going to have to try harder! :)

Are there any good places for recon gearboxes? I'm in Cambridgeshire if there's anywhere local...

you need an astra or zafira F23 box, the vectra box has a different mounting :(

I am looking at getting the 2.2 direct 6 speed box for my vx220, but I haven't found one yet + it might not fit notsure.gif

Really? what's happened to yours then?
Someone on the vx220 forum offered me another broken gearbox, which you could possibly repair. I can find his name if you want - there seem to have been a few fully-working ones on ebay though around the £150 mark.

I finally got mine fixed using a £75 low-mileage gearbox with a broken bell housing. To be honest if i'd have known what a PITA it was i'd have shelled out the full £150 and saved myself a few weeks!!
