Engine light on - off

Sometime ago, my engine light suddenly turned on, and I got the faultcode read as the egr valve. I spent the money and bought a new one. The egr valve was fitted, but the engine light did not turn off. I hade to get the fault deleted, and after that, all worked just fine.
My question is, should the engine light turn off by itself, when the new part is fitted or must it be deleted with codereader, as it was in my case notsure.gif

It just needed the ecu to be reset so that it new that the EGR wasnt faulty anymore.

So what your saying is... cut the power from the batteri, for 10-15min and all would have been ok?
