Can i degrease some new discs with carb cleaner or do i need some spacific brake cleaner dunno..

I know you can not fit them with the protective oil that is on them.

Cheers for the offer mate was going to do them in the morning.

I would have thought Carb cleaner is a good enough de-greaser?

As above, Carb Cleaner is fine, that is what I used last time I changed the discs on my Astra.

In the end i just got plain vented Mintex discs. They did have some drilled mintex discs at a extra £10 but heard bad things about drilled discs.

Nice one Si, the old ones certainly had worn well though, and 3 years is really good going given the milage you do

definately needed changing, was that a MOT observation or just thought you would change them?

was it an easy job?

Cheers guys.

It passed it's MOT fine in Dec / Jan but they seemed to have worn down all of a sudden so may have been a fail or note if i had a MOT.

Changing was pritty easy mate, took about 1hr per side. I think i was pritty lucky though all the nuts i came to undo did not round and wasnt too siezed. This is how i did it. Bearing in mind mine are 308 so have the carriers to remove as well.

Loosen wheel bolts
Jack up
Remove wheel
remove two bung covers then with 7mm allen key in racket undo the colletts
then pull the front sping from the caliper.

Then undid the brake fluid resviour lid to release pressure, make sure fluid isnt right at the top if so put a rag round it you dont want that spilling on your car.

Reove the caliper and press the pad back to press the piston in to allow the fitment of the new disc

Remove the caliper hanger two bolts 15mm i think.

Remove the Grub screw holding the disc on, this was where it is common to drill them out. Mine came out after a bit of sweating and pulling.

Clean up with a wire brush use a little copper slip on hub i also used a tiny bit on the grub screw that holds the disc on then in reverse but it back togaether.

Clean the disc with degreaser and make sure you dont get any grease or muck on the new disc face when re-fitting it.

once all back as you started, pump the pedal make sure travel seems ok. Go for a little drive VERY CAREFUL and slow to check them.

Thats my simple guide and not sure it if that is how everyone else does it.

Brakes are obvisouly very important so if unsure do not do it yourself a garge shouldnt charge more then 30 - 50 quid to fit them.
