Hi wonder if you experts can help me. Recently got the wife a vectra c 2.2 petrol and have i think serious problems. Now and then the eml comes on and when i take the plugs out ,one of them has a bit of oil on the tip. Changed plugs and runs good but when i boot it, smoke comes out the back and its deffinatley burning a small amount of oil. From reading bits and pieces on this forum,seems it could be the rings that have gone but wanted to do a compression check to confirm this. Bought a guage today, took out plugs and fuse for fuel pump. I also disconected the coil and as it has electronic throttle i wedged it open. When i tried to turn it over it wouldnt turn until i took wedge out of throttle mouth so my readings were very low due to throttle not being fully open.By the way car was warmed up! Can anyone tell me the correct way to compession test with this throttle or does it need specialist equipment.Ive searched over a few nights and cant find this information, I might just me being a bit thick i dont know. Also if it is rings and i remove head and sump to remove pistons can i hone cylinders in situ or am i looking at a new bottom end. Thanks your help would be greatly appreciated.
