Balance chain

Morning all,
Just a quick question, dose the balance chain tensioner operate in the same way as the cam chain tensioner as in its operates on oil pressure!
When I did cam chain the balance chain seemed loose but engine runs ok with no rattles or noises!? Thanks Rob

hey
the balancer chain tensioner is ran on oil pressure it also has a ratchet system so once it clicks out it cant go back in
the oil pressure will push it to the nearest click and should be fine

I always replace both chains at the same time, I have seen more failed balance chain tensioners than cam chains.

The chain should not be loose even when not running, it is supposed to have an internal spring mechanism to keep tension.
